  • Pro Res, DNXHD MXF, GoPro Cineform are all good to edit with and should solve your issues. Sounds like your footage is LongGOP, which might require more computing power than you have. Do a test with a few files and see if its any different. If not, you may have some other issue causing the bottleneck.

The media size is trivial for most of them. Probably wouldn’t help.

    Just render them.

  • I’m not sure I get exactly whats tripping here…

If you have everything routed through submixes , the submixes are what gets output to the individual tracks in the WAV, not the original sequence tracks.

For example, set your multichannel sequence to output 12 channels. You are not restricted to a single stereo pair in a multi channel sequence master track at all. You can have many output tracks that are fully mappable to create a multichannel WAV file.

Route Submix 1 to Channel 1-2, Submix 2 to Channel 3-4, and so on.
I just did something similar earlier today, in fact.

  • You just have to route things properly in the track mixer and in Media Encoder and use a multichannel sequence and it works.

For instance, if tracks 1-4 are routed to sub mix 1, tracks 5-6 are routed to sub mix 2 and tracks 7-10 are routed to submix 3, then route the sub mixes to the proper multi track Master tracks and you will get the three sub mixes when you export.

Sounds more complicated than it is.

  • If we are talking about “traditional” Avid Media management see below…..if we are talking about AMA/Linked Media, then the procedure is entirely different….

For Avid to recognize the media you need to set up the folder structure like this…

    Your Drive/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1

You cannot use a different folder structure.

Inside the “1” folder will be the media files and also a media database. If the database file isn’t there, Avid won’t recognize any media. You can force Avid to rebuild if its missing.

Import a graphic or music file. Make sure you select that media drive as the import destination. Once it imports, Avid will create a new database and also notice that there is tons of media in the same folder. You’ll see a “scanning” progress bar come up on screen and the media will come online when it finishes.

If the media does not reconnect, look on the drive and see if Avid has created a brand new separate folder structure for media that includes only the graphic or music file you just imported. If that is the case, move all the other media files into that folder and Avid will scan them.

If the original project used AMA aka Linked Media you need to approach this differently….let us know which.

There are some effects that require using nests to properly adjust things (mostly involving Track Mattes), but other than that, I generally stay away from nesting. Just seems like its inviting wonkiness.

  • You have a multichannel sequence, but do you have each track mapped to a different channel or are they all set to 1-2 (the default setting)?

You can change the mapping easily in the Track mixer or in a somewhat more cumbersome way in the timeline

  • The 4% speedup is actually a very common way for films to be transferred to 25fps, since they involve material at 24 fps. The audio needs to be pitch corrected to sound natural.

Download the proper version of Blackmagic Desktop (firmware and drivers) for your OS and re-install them. Seems like the BMD device is causing the issue and you may have installed too recent a version for your device.
