Sorry, I meant the sample rate of the source file you got from your sound guy. This will be viewable in the Browser.
Sometimes, sound guys used to doing music will use 44.1k and FCP defaults to 48, as that is the standard for video. If you put a 44.1k sound file in your timeline, FCP will try to sample rate convert on the fly, but often will have difficulty..which can cause things to fall out of sync or cause audible pops and clicks.
There are a couple of ways to deal with it if the sample rate is 44.1. One is to render the audio (item level render), the other (preferred) is to convert to 48k using QuickTime Pro, iTunes, or Compressor.

If you batch recapture from the same clip in the same bin in HD it should work fine wherever that clip was used.

What is the sample rate of the timeline and what Easy Setup are you using?
how are you monitoring audio and video from FCP? -
Then in addition to the MPEG2 encode of the DVD, you will be applying DV compression, which will result in some loss in quality. Then, when you bring it into an HD timeline you will be applying a third level of compression to whatever your editing codec is.

You don’t want to use “Best” for the Rate Conversion in the Frame Controls when just adding pulldown.
Actually, believe it or not, you want to use “Fastest”. Compressor will add the proper pulldown to get to 29.97 using the fastest setting. Using Optical Flow (Best) for this can actually cause odd artifacts (and take 10 times longer).
For any resizing…by all means use “Better” or “Best”.
Make sure you specify “Lower Field First” in “Output Fields” for SD, Upper for HD.

If your avid guy has MC5 or better, ProRes will be fine. he can bring it in via AMA. If he has an old system, you are screwed and won’t make your deadline.

Do you have FCP X installed by any chance?
If you do, there is a secondary install (download from the internet) of a Pro Apps codec package, which will reinstall all the pro codecs, including Pro Res.

My initial of Lion had some permissions problems that needed fixing and were causing odd behavior. Try a permissions repair using Disk Utility. May not help, bit it won’t hurt.

Not having access to the source timecode has been killing me.
