Hey everyone thanks for hearing me out. So I have this huge project in my hands. I cut it on FCP 7 and now I need to send it to my colorist who uses avid on a PC.

I shot full 1080P on Sony F-900. Editing on Apple Pro Res 422.
2 hours and 23 minutes of footage (Ya I know! it’s freaking huge)

I want to spit that out to an avid system on PC. More importantly, I need to put it on a hard drive and give it to my buddy who’s driving 3 hours north to deliver this to my colorist in exactly 8 hours from now. lol

    Here are my options:

    1. I tried the export settings at none, that would take about 8 hours and my whole 1TB drive.
    2. I could export quicktime movie pro res 422, which would take roughly 2 hours, but is that a good codec to export to avid?
    3. I’ve downloaded the avid codec. But that’s taking 5 hours and at 5% it’s taken up 10 gigs.

    Your advice and thoughts.

Thanks, I will appreciate any help.

Download from the Avid Website the DNxHD Codec – it is an Avid codec – very good high resolution close to Animation Codec Quality and very small!

If your avid guy has MC5 or better, ProRes will be fine. he can bring it in via AMA. If he has an old system, you are screwed and won’t make your deadline.

Thank you, I actually made my deadline by using the avid hd codec, took 5 hours and 190gb of space.

Cut it close, but you made it. Congrats!
