“I don’t think thats true . Its my understanding that it based it on the creation time/date of the file (which may be different, if you are working with a copy and not the original file on the card). The THM files were ignored. Many people use QTChange from VideoToolshed to extract the time/date and embed TOD timecode in the file.
Check out this recent thread on Avid’s forum and the response from the moderator. He’s not an Avid employee, so he may be wrong…but my experience tells me he’s right.

How are you determining the audio is out of sync?
Are you sure this isn’t an audio monitoring issue?
Are you listening to the audio coming out of the Matrox, but looking at video on the desktop?
Can you listen to the audio straight out of the computer instead?
I say this because everything plays in sync in the timeline (presumably through the matrox).

Not likely. FCP 7 is “End Of Life”.
FCPX is the current version, for better or worse.

True about color space, but dv 50 its still compressed more than 2:1.

I’m with Rafael on this. 8 Bit uncompressed or Pro Res if you have the storage space. Not adding more compression to something already heavily compressed is best. Pro Res is compressed, but at least it’s less lossy than older codecs.
However, if this is being mastered to DV or DVCAM tape, there is no point to using anything other than DV..as the deck will recompressed everything to the DV codec when you record.

Yes. Soundtrack does retain the panning and levels, so if they are not there something is up with your sequence or the way it was exported.

FCP has dupe detection. Just turn it on in User Prefs.
