Really comes down to personal preference. On comparable hardware, avid runs well on both OSX and Windows 7.

It’s not causing your problem, but as an aside, 12gb is way too little RAM for a 64 bit app.

You can ignore the installer warning. It will install anyway. It runs fine, I am running MC 6 on a Mac Pro 2,1. That machine (and the Mac Pro 1,1) have 32 bit EFI, as you noted. Mine is a custom configured 8 core.

MC still runs in 64 bit mode. The OS cannot run 64 bit kernel extensions, but that doesn’t matter unless you have DX hardware. The new DX kexts are 64 bit only, I have heard.

Note, this is an unsupported configuration. But it does work. make sure you max out the RAM if you want it to work well.

I would put more than 10GB of RAM in. 64 bit really wants RAM. You might start getting out of memory errors on longer sequences.

Many AJA users are still having problems, though they may have licked the scrubbing issue.

AJA is recommending an 8 core machine or better with their products on Premiere. Do you have one?

select “Save as Quicktime Movie” as in your picture.

Then click Options on the right.

Do the Avid Codecs show as options?

I gave up. Switched to Avid. Scrubbing is beautiful.

I think the problems with the third party cards and Premiere show that Adobe was mainly interested in performance on the desktop GPU and less so with I/O cards. AJA and Blackmagic make great cards…if they are still having driver problems with Adobe…its probably Premiere thats the issue. Will probably get better with CS6, but I couldn’t wait.

The timecode within FCP (assuming you used Log and Transfer) is based on the THM files, which derives the TC from the file creation date/time.

That TC won’t necessarily be visible in the H264 original, as QT doesn’t read the THM file.

You can do Bluray with Compressor not DVDSP.
That’s part of Final Cut Studio as well.

There are may external BluRay recorders. I have an LG but I can’t remember the model (not in front of my computer).

No. You need an HD format to preserve HD quality. Regular DVD is SD only.

BluRay is the only HD disc that can easily be played.
