When you import photos directly in Avid, they are coverted to a video clip the size of your project dimensions. In the import settings dialog you can choose how to deal with photos that are not the same size or aspect ratio of your project. This almost always reduces the resolution of your photo considerably.

If you want the photos to retain their original resolution, so you can do moves on them (aka “Ken Burns” style), you want to be using Avid Pan and Zoom, or Avid FX. Avid Pan and Zoom does not do rotation, however Avid FX (aka Boris Red) does. Stagetools also makes a plugin for this called Moving Picture, however I don’t think it’s updated for MC 6 yet.

Avid applies a “motion adapter” to mixed rate clips (clips that don’t match the project rate). This plays in real time. The quality is decent, but to get the highest quality, you have to switch it to Fluid Frame, which takes a very, very long time to render.

May I ask why you still need to run Leopard?
The Blackmagic Driver 9.0 works with Snow Leopard as well as Lion.
You might want to call or e-mail BMD about using v9 with Leopard. It may work just fine, but they might not have tested it.

Not trying to be a jerk, but every piece of software/hardware from Avid I have ever gotten, whether boxed or downloaded, has come with very detailed, step by step installation instructions.
Do you have a specific question or something you dont understand? Otherwise you are just asking people to cut and paste the same install instructions you can already read yourself.

Try downloading and installing Perian (google it).
Once installed, Streamclip or Compressor should be able to deal with it

What is your SD frame size ?
720 x 480 or 486?

Are you monitoring video through a Blackmagic card but monitoring the audio from the computer audio output. If so, they will be out of sync. You need to monitor the audio output of the Blackmagic card.

Get Info on your media drive (hopefully NOT your startup Mac HD)
In the Get Info window, at the bottom check the box that says “ignore ownership on this volume”
Its bad to do this on the volume that has your OS, but its fine to do it on others.

I was having a similar problem and I found this online after some Googling…
Type this in Preferences/Debug
LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 1
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1I don’t know what this really does and what the ramifications are…but it got rid of the warning and everything worked at reasonable speed.
Just using Resolve for training though. I make no promises about the fix and its usability in a real world scenario.
Contact BMD for any advice. It appears, under certain conditions, Resolve can not get the graphics card detection right.

I think there is a checkbox that appears in the Capture tool, however you have to be using Firewire (aka 1394) and not HDSDI to do it.
