With DDR3, having RAM sticks in any configuration other then in multiples of 3 is bad for performance, since DDR3 is designed to have trios of RAM sticks working together. Your 16GB of RAM will actually be slower under some circumstances then 12GB would have been.

My background: I’m a PP5.5 user, and I’ve build my own workstations.
Thoughts:
1) Scrap the Quadra. The GeForce 570/580 cards are faster for PP usage and SOOOO much cheaper.2) more RAM if you can. My current build has 24GB and that fills up when I render. AME knows how to use RAM, and it uses ALL of it.
3) Get BluRay if you feel like it… this isn’t Mac anymore, you can have anything you want!
4) RAID 0 can be scary… I’d suggest, if there’s room in the case that you add one more drive and make a RAID 5 with 4 disks, leaving one for the system.
5) you can probably make all the changes I’ve suggested and it’ll cost less because of ditching the Quadro.

With AME CS3 I made H.264 .movs all the time. When I switched to CS5, suddenly the same (as far as I can tell) settings looked awful. I switched to H.264 .mp4s and everything was back like it should be.
I have no idea if this is true, but theoretically, because quicktime is 32bit, making an .mov H.264 should take much longer then a raw Mp4 file which is would be rendered by a 64bit engine. (assuming the Main Concept encoder is 64bit… which is I think was AME uses when it makes Mp4 files)

Just a note,
If you’re doing multiple files at once, the “replace” command is slow because you have to do each clip separately.
If the file names of the new files match the old ones, using “Make Offline” followed by “Link Media” will allow you to replace all the shots at once.

In the clip’s properties, does PP list any audio channels or just the video part of the clip? What Camera is this MXF from? Do all clips from this camera fail, or just the one?

Can you tell us the length of the file, it’s resolution and the file size? Any and all info about the file will help.

Don’t forget, you can’t use it with the Mac Pro yet…

Then why does it have speakers, and a webcam?
This monitor is aimed at laptop users. Buying their monitor to go with your Macbook Pro/Air is what Apple wants you to do. They’re offering the entire package, at the premium that you’d expect from them.
As a pro, I wouldn’t buy this monitor. If I’m going to spend $1000 for 27 inches, I’d get the NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27″ and get deep color to boot.

That’s exactly it. That’s exactly what apple expects you to do. That’s the only display apple offers. if you want an apple display (and most apple consumers seem to.) this is what you buy.

And all that about “Since there are two wire pairs, and the system is bidirectional, a single cable can have up to 40Gbps coursing through it at its maximum theoretical capacity (20Gbps upstream and 20Gbps downstream).” is total marketing baloney. Adding the upstream and downstream rates together is totally meaningless, and only ever done by marketing. So the actual answer is that it currently runs at 10Gb, with a second 10Gb stream, but apple’s never going to let you use the second one for anything other then displays. So, it affectively runs at 10Gbs now. Later, when they finally make it optical, it might actually be useful to me.
