[Kyle Fordrung] ” I have noticed after my testing that the progress bar seems to hang for a while between 1% – 4% and then goes from 5 to 100 almost instantly”
That is normal. This is because it’s coping the files in alphabetical order. So all the folders with lots of small files copy first, which takes a while because the copying never gets up to speed, then it hits the VIDEO folder last and the speed ramps up.
I have yet to find a program that didn’t copy this way.

It’s possible there’s a P2 Driver issue here.
I have been shooting P2 three and a half years, and except for at the beginning, I’ve avoided downloading cards using the camera because it was horribly slow.
Anyway, the point is that after using finder for 3 years, I now have Shotput Pro for unrelated reasons and when I tried using it to download from P2 cards it was horribly slow… about half the speed, which is about the same as Kyle reports.
So it could be a driver issue with curtain programs accessing P2 Media.
I gave up on Shotput and went back to using finder. (I carefully verify all my footage before wiping the cards. I’ve only once had the process go pear shaped on me… knock on wood.)

Another idea,
Go to Modify>Interpret footage and type in a higher frame rate. You can type in 1000 to completely remove the slowmotion affect. Since this affects every instance of the clip you’ll want to duplicate the clip in the project and interpret them at different frame rates.

I tested it. Rendered a XDCAM HD file, and then turned around and rendered it again.
Dropped them into AE and set it to diference. The first 2 frames and the last 30 were different, all the rest were identical.
Tried it again queueing the render from Premiere, but it didn’t work, so the function has no real use yet.
This was all on windows. When I tried on Mac, (Because of creative cloud, I have finally been able to install Premiere on my MBP that I use for everything except editing.) I found that MXF wasn’t even a option????
Is not being able to render to a MXF OP1a normal for Premiere on a Mac?

AVC-intra is one of the codecs currently supported,
so, in your workflow, the Ability to smart render will give you a slight quality boost, and a slight speed increase…What’s wrong with that?

Um, your video looks as bad as the titles… I think your problem has nothing to do with the text and has something to do with your sequence settings.

Perhaps I should have posted in the FCPX forum… 🙂
This isn’t a big deal for me ether as, like you, I tend to export H.264, but for anyone doing broadcast it’s potentially humongous… as long as Adobe adds support for enough codecs, and lets you use preview files as a source. Being able to render as you go does save a bunch of time when last minute revisions pop up.
The FCP switchers keep trying to use “use previews” as a replacement for the functionally of FCP, but it isn’t a replacement, and they’re losing quality in their exports.

[Nevin Styre] “as long as I checked “use preview files” in the settings dialog when exporting my timeline, the sections already rendered with a green bar on the timeline were used for creating the exported file”
That’s not quite the same thing. The frames are still re-encoded, so unless you use an uncompressed preview codec, you’re incurring a generation loss. “Smart Rendering” as adobe calls is means using the frames (or GOPs) wholesale without touching them, something that until now, Premiere was unable to do except with DV.

You’d think…… but no. Premiere is kinda stupid when it comes to relinking like this. It’s good at finding stuff when you move files around that are already in a project, but in your case, there’s nothing you can do but relink them all manually.
CS6 may have fixed this. I hope so.. it’s kinda silly how weak the relinking features of Premiere are.

May 10, 2012 at 4:06 am in reply to: Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 PC – Changing target disk for Media EncoderUm, I’m not exactly sure what you’re after here….
You can tell it where to save the file in any number of ways… When you’re setting up the export type, or if you click on the file path listed in the queue… Seems rather simple to me. Are you talking about something else?
