  • Thanks, but all the settings there are unchecked – I use “Edit to Tape” to output full sequences all the time(with no black/countdown/etc settings in the “Mastering” tab). I’m just hoping someone can tell me why the computer won’t re-record the last third of the timeline to tape when it will output the entire timeline with no problems.

When our Final Cut IS able to record the “IN to OUT” to tape, the window that pops up while recording to tape shows the actual video being output to tape starting at the “IN” point. When it has THIS problem, that window only shows black – even though it records for the duration indicated by “IN to OUT”.

Sorry, I think I need a term definition to be able to follow this thread. I know it should be obvious but “AFP” stands for what…?

Many sites are less than $40 US but musiciansfriend.com is $26 right now. (but it’s 4x)

I can’t wait until the XDCAM writer is able to write any type of data.

I just exported “Same as Source ” and one QT was corrupt, one was green the bottom half, and one crashed Quicktime Pro. “Same as Source” is not the answer with HD footage.

How would you remap a key combination to the keyboard? (I don’t see it in the command palette)

We were told at the seminar that they would be data drives (recording whatever data was presented) by the end of the month. Haven’t seen independent confirmation on that, however.

Have you tried importing them into an Avid and then exporting QTs? I’ve found that the Avid has ingested footage that FCP could not because of file structure problems.

  • I attended a Sony and Avid workflow seminar a few weeks ago and got hands-on with the 700, EX3 and EX1 there.

The biggest quality upgrade for the 700 is the processing IMHO. The difference between 12-bit processing and 14-bit processing plus the difference between 4:2:0 and 4:2:0 (at 50meg) is why this camera is going to be huge.

Also, the EX3 with the framerate/format knob on the side of the camera and the ability to be controlled by CCU (plus interchangable lenses) are big upgrades from the EX1.

The new firmware upgrade for the PDW-U1 XDCAM drive makes it a read AND write device. XDCAM disks are the same price as a Beta tape ($23) so that is the option I’m moving towards. Sony says they are stable for 50 years (just like tape), much thinner than a Beta tape sitting on a shelf, and the drive is USB2.
