Your recording settings are probably fine. Just your render settings.
LESSON 1 Recording: You said you are recording at 1920 x 1080 x 60i. That is a great HD setting. HD recording will take about 13 gig per hour. That is it. If you have one and one half hours, it is 20gig.
You could record in SD mode, that will take up about 6 gig per hour. IF all you are doing is to record and upload to a web site, this may be an attractive option. The reason is to edit and render an SD file is much faster than the HD file.
If there is an option that some day you may want the footage for something other than uploading, you may want to do what you are doing, record in HD. You can downcovert for the web, and later use the HD for a bluray or something.
LESSON 2.
Rendering.
This is the process of producing an output file. There are an infinite number of compressions that can be applied as you render it. These can reduce the size and quality until you get the trade off you like. You will have to experiment. I am not familiar with the consumer editors like imovie, but there must be something that allows you to choose lower bits per second, or smaller image size, or less frames per second. That is both on the video and audio side.LESSON 3. YOutube
About a year ago, You tube started a different approach and started allowing super large files like 10 to 20gigabytes to be uploaded to their site. You need a good internet connection and it might take all day to upload. Then, youtube will render it in various formats for you to best fit various output devices. They used to have strict rules, now they recommend that you upload the highest quality that you have.Lesson 4. DVD players do not understand high definition. YOu mentioned that your hd video was 20Gig and how could it fit on a dvd. It can’t and a dvd player couldn’t play it if it could. That is why you have to put it on a bluray disk, which is 25gigabytes.

Many of the out of box players on apple and pc assume that if you have avchd (MP4) video you also have Ac3 audio. So their codecs won’t play the footage right from the camera.
You should be able to download a video player plug in to help play it back. Alternatively, on the camera, change the audio recording to the ac3 mode if you want that compatibility.

However, looking at your screen shot, it looks to me that it is one of two things.
1. A faulty SD card or card slot driver.
2. A sensor with one failed row.It sounds like you have eliminated all variables for the first possibility, that only leaves the second.
I would call Sony support and once you talk to a tech, send him the pictures.
There is a strong possiblity this will have to be sent in to Sony for repair.Actually, there is one other possibility. Early on (First year made) in NX5Us history, they found a software bug that caused recording issues. You could try the sony website, check the latest version of firmware. Then compare it to yours.

I agree with Brent.
If I were looking for a new camera today I would seriously consider the new Sony model he mentioned rather than the nx5.
It only has a 10 x zoom, but it is changeable. And the autofocus specs look better.

Every camera has its own unique characteristics. I did not mean it is better than the Canon Mark III at all things. I meant that a good shooter knows his equipment and knows how to leverage strengths and minimize weaknesses.
The NX5 is not a large format sensor and therefore you can always get better DOF effects with the Mark III. However, with the Mark III you can at best get a 3, 4, or 5 x zoom lens, so you have to be standing pretty close to the bride and groom.
The nx5 does have picture profile and the low light was a little better than the mark II that I compared it with. I have not compared it to a Mark III. However, the comparison has to be made at the same lens length. Since the Sony can zoom to a much longer length, it is easy for it to appear grainy in dark situations with full zoom.
My take on things was that the Mark II wa better for shots I could control and direct like shooting commercials and interviews. The NX5 U was better at live events where I had no control.

I shoot weddings every week with the nx5u and recommend it for weddings. It is much easier to use than a Canon Mark anything for this purpose.
Will the quality be as good? Much of that depends on the shooter. It has a 20 x optical zoom so you can stand out of the way like in the back of the venue. And as the bride and groom leave you can widen up to come toward you.
With the FM128 attachement, you can record about 12 hours of HD.

I had this problem, and they repaired it under warranty.
They replaced the entire focus control board. I do not think there is anything else you can do on your own.
Best thing is when you send it in, reference the posts on the site which talk about this problem. Suggest that it was a bad design and please could they consider this a warranty item.

I am not exactly clear on your question.Are you saying how could various sizes of sensor still give 1920 x 1080 output?
The difference is the distance between each sensor pixel. Same number of pixels, just spread out farther on the same silicon subtrate. The lens has to be designed to spread the image out over that full area. And, therefore has a shallower depth of field. The coveted shallow depth of field.
In the higher end cameras that are advertising 4 k and above, they do have more pixels, however they are able to subsample to still give you a 1920 x 1080 if you want compatiblility.
