Shane’s right. I misread your post and assumed you’d keep the IO with the old Mac and use the MXO2 LE with the new. Go that way and you’ll have tremendous flexibility.

AE is Adobe After Effects. The Compressor workflow has been extensively discussed. Search and you’ll find your answers. The key to high-quality encodes in Compressor is using Frame Controls. But, not only will it greatly increase quality, it will also greatly increase encode times.

While this is best answered by someone doing location sound every day, my $.02 is road noise is rarely an issue. After all it’s expected. With windows up most cars are quiet enough. Sound guys I’ve hired have used a Schoeps mk41 capsule with a special cable (whose #s I don’t remember) mounting it to the rear mirror support. Two mic are used if there are two people in the scene. Although I’ve never tried it, I’ve heard of people using boundary effect mics, too. For me, the “sound” of a car interior (oddly hollow-ish) always bothers me so there’s tweaking to do in post.

I’m not familiar with the Mini’s i/o, but using it with the IO should work. I do something similar with my IO and Kona. For SD upconversion, the SD deck goes into the IO. Then SDI out of IO to SDI input of the Kona. Works great. And as Bob Zelin has pointed out, the IO has a framesync which makes capturing SD from 1/2″ & 3/4″ decks possible.

What camera are you using and what kind of file are you importing directly? If there’s a log and transfer/capture workflow, you might try that. Have you tried double-clicking one of the imported clips and changing the pan position of one of the audio tracks? You have two audio tracks, right? And both are panned left?
