I have no idea if this would help, but have you tried increasing the preroll?

Here are a couple of threads from other forums that suggest some sites. Most of these sites offer multiple format sounds so you should be able to find what you need.

My guess is the T-shirt is the culprit. It’s just muffling the sound. Try listening without it. I’d keep your mic 1 to 2 feet away and slightly above the talent’s mouth (pointing down at the mouth) so any plosives don’t go right into the mic.

If you hear pops and need a pop filter, try stretching woman’s stocking across a metal coat hanger and mount that 3 – 4 inches infront of the mic. You want a material that’s transparent to sound.

    Hope this helps.

June 8, 2005 at 6:43 pm in reply to: Audio scrub while trimming?

Scrub seems to work for me in trim mode. I was able to turn it on and off in View>Audio Srubbing and with Shift-S. However, while I was playing I noticed that in View Menu > External Video the setting was changed to Off instead of All Frames. As a result I couldn’t hear the audio through my AJA IO since the audio was set to follow video and, therefore, was off, too.

Could be a field dominance issue. Check in Compressor in the Encoder tab of the 60min Hi Qual preset to make sure that Bottom First is selected.

June 6, 2005 at 6:10 pm in reply to: FCP conversion to .WMV

I still use Cleaner 6 for wmvs. I believe it makes WM7 files which are a couple of versions old. However, a lot of my clients are corporations whose IT deptartments are using older versions of everything, so it works out. To use Cleaner, just export from FCP a reference QuickTime movie of your program, drag it into Cleaner and you’re set. That said, I have Popwire’s solution and it’s very nice (and inexpensive compared to Flip4Mac).

June 3, 2005 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Audio meters on capture

Once you are actually capturing a clip, you won’t see the meters working.

However, you can see the meters as you are logging your ins and outs. We’re using an AJA IO so I’m not sure if this works across the board.

Make sure in View > Audio Playback menu you select ProIO (or probably whatever IO you’re using).

Make sure when you’re in capture mode that you’ve clicked the Waveform Monitor and Vectorscope button in the Clip Settings tab.

Now, when you play your clip, the meters should register. What I do is send a reference tone from my mixer and adjust it so when my mixer reads -10, the capture meters read -10. You can pick any level, I just pick -10 since that’s what I typcially peak to. Then, when you capture, adjust your levels on your mixer and the levels will be the same in FCP.

    Hope this helps.

If you mean you don’t see the clip in the Viewer, try double-clicking it. You should always see it in the Canvas if the playhead is over the clip.
