probably really dumb but…
trying to slip a clip in the timeline and I’m not getting the dual frame display in the canvas…have I switched it off in some way, and if so how do I get it back??

If you mean you don’t see the clip in the Viewer, try double-clicking it. You should always see it in the Canvas if the playhead is over the clip.
