If I understand you correctly, you want to play a video inside a Flash movie. If that’s it, I suggest encoding the video to a flv. You’ll need to use the SparkPro codec in MX2004 (I think). The newer On2VP6 codec is MUCH better, but you may have to use Flash 8 instead of MX. Check out the Macromedia Flash forum on the Cow for more info.

Sound Ideas in Canada https://www.sound-ideas.com has a very large library of SFX. Most can be auditioned online. If you Google sound effects you’ll see a bunch of other options.

  • Check the settings of your Mode System Display. I have a 3700, but no manual and a 3800 with manual. The manual descrives how to do this. There are mode settings that affect the output – whether it goes to the AES (XLR) or SPDIF (RCA/coax) connectors. Your machine is probably setup for AES. If you don’t have your manual, you may be able to download one from the website. Also, make sure you DAT is set for 48k and not 44.1. I’ve flipped that switch by mistake a couple of times and run into trouble.

  • You will need a preamp with your mic for it to work and sound best. Connect the pre to the G5, open the voiceover tool in FCP and see if the pre is recognized. If not, you’ll need the driver from the bad disc. However, you might be able to download it from the M-Audio support site. Once you have it working, try some test records. I tried a USB interface/preamp with FCP and the voiceover tool a while back and found it caused a lot of glitches in the audio. I ended up using a AD/DA converter I had around which had an optical out I sent to the G5. That works fine.

It’s true you need the latest Flash player. It’s easy to have your Flash application test for the version of Flash player on a user’s computer and offer a link to download the latest version. Here’s a part of an April 2006 Microsoft release about the use of Flash.

    “Macromedia Flash 8

Macromedia Flash 8 has emerged as a potent force in the streaming media marketplace since it introduced streaming video. In fact, in the past two years, Flash 8 has become one of the most widely used streaming media players in the marketplace:

And use the On2 VP6 codec. It far surpasses the SparkPro codec both in quality and size. You can purchase a version of Squeeze for Flash only. The VP6 codec, however, is an additional purchase.

July 18, 2006 at 1:02 am in reply to: Normalizing audio on a ton of media files

It sound like you could just batch normalize. I know you can do that with Cleaner. I know Compressor will do batches, but I’ve never tried to just normalize audio with it. Peak was mentioned, which can normalize, but I don’t remember if it can batch process. I’m not in front of that computer. Perhaps their site would explain that.

Since you’re using this for archiving for demos, if the levels are off a bit when you put togther a reel, it’s not a big deal to even out the audio.

Just found a plugin that might help. You’d have to import your files into FCP, apply the plugin and then export. https://www.wavearts.com/FinalPlug5.html
