    I would love to see a small keyboard + app to input the metadata shot by shot. For years you could buy a foldable keyboard to use with your cell for texting/email. Why not for metadata? Ironically, we’ve gone back to using a slate. It puts all the info we need into the picture. And we always make sure we don’t roll until the slate is in. That way the clip icon is the slate.

    Anton Bauer Ultra Lights are used by many. Options could push the price over $200. Often, you can find good deals for UL kits on eBay. Also, there are some good-looking LED lights out there, but they’re more expensive.

    If this is a phase problem on a mono channel where sound from two mics (or sound reflected from the desk back to the mic) mix and cancel out certain frequencies, you can try some eq to help the mix. The frequency range between 250 and 800Hz is where mudiness often occurs. Start around 300Hz and add or subtract acrossm the mudiness range and see what happens.

    If the mics are on separate channels, try what Drew suggested or try reversing the phase on one channel and see if that affects the mix.

    In the future, get a good set of phones and listen carefully on the set for phase cancellation. You can rarely get rid of it completely once it’s recorded.

    It may be possible to use a tool like Izotope RX to remove the crickets. The more the crickets sound like random sound, they better it should work. You should experiment. Also, while I’d rather collect sound with a boom mic, in this casw, close micing with lavs may help.

    We’ve had good results with BitVice. Version 2.3 is fast. On our MacPro we just encoded a 30-minute SD program for a DVD in about 17 minutes. Dual-pass. Audio to ac3 was done with Compressor. BitVice doesn’t do all the various formats like Compressor.

    We use either Squeeze or Flip4Mac to make wmvs. If you render out a QT movie from AfterFX that includes the audio track, you can then import that into another app to make the wmv. I’ve never tried making a wmv directly from AfterFX. You could also try a post on the Compression Techniques forum. https://forums.creativecow.net/forum/compressiontechniques

    Adding mass and plugging air leaks will help. I’d start by caulking every seam of your wall – inside ands out – in corners and at the ceiling and floor. It’s amazing how much sound is transmitted through small air leaks. If that doesn’t do it, add more mass inside and/or out. I’ve seen some products you can sandwich between sheetrock, but I can’t find the link. The best way to achieve sound isolation is using a room-within-a-room construction technique. But you may be too far along for that.
