Do you have an external broadcast monitor? It’s the only way to know for sure what your visual quality is.

I’d use ProRes or 8-bit uncompressed. Capture what you can to the format of your choice, and use Compressor to convert the rest. It will do a much better job of scaling than FCP. Make sure to choose the highest quality settings in the Encoder tab in Compressor.

I saw a post about this recently. Try searching the Cow. Also, there are a lot of posts about what & how to upload to YouTube for the best look.

Calibrated Software’s MXF Import for OSX might do it. https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/

Also you could try MXF Import QT https://mxf4mac.com/mxfimport

    Both have demos.

How are you trying to bring the data into FCP – from the camera or a drive? If from the camera, have you tried off-loading the cards to a drive and transferring from there? That’s not hard to do.

  • I’ve never heard of only one track of 2 being out of sync. Sorry, but I’m out of ideas. How was the audio recorded and what kind of file is it?

Disk Warrior oprimizes the directory of a hard drive fixing any problems. Since the directory tells the OS where everything is on a drive, it’s really important it’s right. Anytime my computer gets wierd, I run DW. IMHO, it’s the most indispensable software I have (after FCP). https://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html

I don’t know the camera well. We have an HPX500. But, if it’s like ours, there’s a menu that lets you change the camera mode so it talks to the usb port. I’m sure it’s in the manual. Check that out.

Cow tutorial on trashing prefs: https://library.creativecow.net/articles/harrington_richard/final_cut_trashing_preferences.php And repair permissions using Disk Utility. If you have Disk Warrior run it. If you don’t have it I suggest you get it. It keeps your drives very happy and fixed all sort of weirdnesses.

Were any of these files played back on the camera? After the cards were off-loaded did anyone check or play them? The first thing I’d check right now is if there is audio on the backup. If the finder is saying zero file size there’s not much you can do other than go to your backup.

While there are a number of DAWs that will do the job, Pro Tools ensures you’ll play nice with the rest of the world. You’ll need some specialized plugins to go in and out of FCP easily. From the early 90s I worked with a Sonic Solutions DAW, but finally went to Pro Tools because I got tired of having to justify its use to prospects unfamiliar with it.
