    Sorry it didn’t work out. I’ve never seen Compressor not open with the batch window. I don’t recall a setting for that in Compressor’s Preferences, but check and see if there’s one that might be off. Otherwise, try a post in the Apple DVD Studio Pro or Compression Techniques forums.

    Ty’s suggestion about the Mackie Big Knob is a good one. You really need to have some control between your Mac and the Genelecs. Otherwise, you might be combing speaker cone out of your hair one day. I suggest you consider a small mixer (Mackie makes them, too). That way you can direct the audio from decks, cameras, I/O devices, etc. to the mixer inputs for capture and also monitor and control the output of FCP.

    Another consideration is whether you want to be able to offload P2 cards with your MBP. If you do, I believe you must get the 17-inch version as only it has an Express Card slot which you need together with a card adaptor (like the Duel Adaptor) to offload P2 cards. We have an older MBP and have had no problems editing DVCPro 720P HD with it. Of course, you need a fast external drive (preferably a RAID). You should never use your system drive as your scratch drive.

    I thought the same, but I believe if an E card was recorded with the old firmware, it won’t offload properly. I think this is why the A card works and the E card doesn’t.

    I’d run Disk Warrior at the least. It will optimize your directories and that affects speed as the directories tell the apps where everything’s located on the drives. It’s the first thing I do whenever FCP (or the system) start acting strangely.

    The problem may be related to a needed camera software update. Here’s a recent post re problems capturing with E cards. Read to the bottom as there’s an update that’s been posted by Panny for some of their cameras (with more to come).

    Take your export (that’s not squished) and drag it or import it to Compressor. Use the same codec you edited with for your export – in other words, Current Settings. You can export either a ref movie or a self-contained one (do not recompress frames). In Compressor choose a preset that will encode the file into its final format: h.264, mv2, ProRes, etc. Make sure the output will be 4:3. Use the Geometry tab in the Inspector as described above to crop off the sides. Try a short test until you’re happy with the result.

    I’m not familiar with the Addonics. Is it advertised as working with P2 cards? There may be an Addonics driver needed for P2. We’re on the Mac side of things, but use a similar process. A Duel Adaptor plugs to the Express Card slot of our MacBook Pro and reads P2 cards. Until the latest Mac OS (Leopard), the card required its own driver in addition to the P2 drivers.

    Tell us more about your system: what kind of scratch drive, your i/o card or device, how full is the drive, etc. Usually, drives slow as they fill up. And you can trash prefs, repair permissions and run Disk Warrior.
