    First try to burn audio with no video going to the DVD recorder. If you can play and hear the audio you’re probably good to go. Download the free MPEG Streamclip. Use it to turn the DVD audio into an aiff or wav file (44.1kHz, 16 bit). Then burn that to the CD. Going to mp3 instead of aiff or wav will just lower the quality of the CD.

    What I meant is do you have an interface that outputs audio & video – like an IO-HD or similar? Or do you listen to playback from the MBP speakers? I’ve not read about audio crackling except as it pertains to Kona 3 cards that aren’t fed video ref. Last thoughts: Are your audio levels set properly – not clipping? Did you do a Mixdown Audio (Sequence Menu > Render Only > Mixdown)? You can try using Render Manager to trash renders and then re-render.

    I said, “I believe.” I didn’t make a categorical statement. For instance, see this thread. It’s one of many similar if you search. Qmaster works fine with multiple machines, but doesn’t seem to help FCP on a single machine.

    FCP will not yet use all processors. Qmaster won’t help. I believe it’s currently limited to using only 2. The expectation is a future version will take advantage of all the cores, but when that will happen is not known. As mentioned some apps like Compressor can use all the cores. I always export QTs and use Compressor for encoding chores rather than using FCP.

    You are correct in thinking you need a Quicktime format for FCP – any format listed in FCP’s Easy Setups will woek. PowerDirector is not a professional video editor. It does list Quicktime as a format in its specs, but it’s not clear what codec is being used. Ask your client what choices there are when exporting Quicktime? See if one of them matches an Easy Setup. If it matches, use that.

    Use that large QT file with Compressor and encode an H.264 movie. Besides QT player, H.264 will also play from Flash Player. Your choice of data rate will affect the final size of the file. Make a short 1-minute test clip from a portion of your film with the most action. Then experiment with different data rates. Find the smallest data rate that still looks good. You can multiply the size of that 1-minute file times the length of your movie to get the final file size. If it’s too big, choose a smaller frame size and lower the data rate some more. Smaller frame size needs less data to look good. A note to increase quality – turn on Frame Controls in Compressor’s Inspector and choose Best quality for scaling. However, this will increase encoding time.

    Just copy the files on your drive to a different drive formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+) non-journaled.
