If the crash happens at the same spot every time you try that might indicate a corrupt file of some sort – possibly a render file. You can try deleting your render files with the Render Manager and re-render. That will probably take a lot of time with a movie of your length. Another possibility is to try the FCS Maintenance Pack. One of the programs is a Corri[t File Finder. They have a trail and I’d try that before trashing all the renders.

First drag the clip you want to encode into the window that says “Drag Settings and Destinations Here.” Then drag the settings preset you want onto the clip. Then select (so it highlights) the thin horizontal area within the clip. Below, you will see the Inspector appear. You’ll see six buttons above “Summary.” Click the second and you’ll see the Encoder. There’s where you’ll find the audio settings. Enable them and make sure the Settings are Linear PCM, Mono or Stereo, and 48kHz. I always select Best Quality and 24 bit (although 16 bit is OK). Now you should get your audio.

You could try to find an iso mount for the mic. The real solution, however, is to turn off the auto-gain. This is often called AGC, so search the manual for that. It’s hard to believe there isn’t a way to turn this off.

I’m fairly certain it’s not the heads. More likely it is the phantom power. Turn off the phantom power and try again. I’m not familiar with that lav. Are you sure it doesn’t use phantom power? Because, if it does, it likely needs a very specific kind of phantom power, one very different from typical phantom power. Wireless lavs use much less phantom power so they don’t drain the transmitter’s batteries. Another possibility is the two cams have different pin configurations. Check the respective manuals for that.

Each card has a Contents folder and Lastclip.txt file. You need to copy both into a separate folder on your drive. Label the folders whatever you want: Shoot date P2 Card 1, 2… Then in Log & Transfer, you point to that folder and your clips should appear.

Both are 16×9. The 1440×1080 is anamorphic – a thin raster HD. That’s why Michael is suggesting converting it to 1920×1080 which is full raster. Full raster, as he explained, plays more easily in FCP since FCP doesn’t have to stretch each frame (in real time) as it plays.
