I work in a similar way, but when I identify a section of the clip I want to use, I mark it in the viewer, then set an in and out point and drag that to a sequence. I name the sequence by topic. When complete, the sequence has all the clips I want. BTW, you can still add markers to the clip when it’s in the sequence by selecting the clip, positioning the playhead and hitting M.

You can use Preference Manager to store your prefs. It’s also great for trashing prefs and then restoring.

Only way I can think of is setting markers in clips as you edit. Then, when you open the clip in the viewer you’ll see the used sections.

Have you run DiskWarrior as Rafael suggested. It has cleared FCP performance issues many times for me. Also, I assume youtrashed prefs and repaired permissions.

Exactly what are your audio & video settings in Compressor? Look in the Inspector. What version FCP? I’ve done this a lot and never had any problems. Must be a wrong setting somewhere.

I don’t know if this would work, but try removing all the templates from their folder (Library > Application Support > Final Cut Studio > Motion > Templates). Create a new folder somewhere and call it Template Hold, or whatever. Put the templates there in case you want to use them in the future.

Levelator is intended for speech. It doesn’t do well with music. I wish it gave users access to threshold levels, amount of compression, etc. so we could tweak it. While it is useful if you need a quick & dirty leveling job, it doesn’t replace taking your time to do a proper mix.
STP3 gives you complete control of levels. It has all the tools you need to control your audio. As for DVD levels, there’s a lot of discussion about that in the FCP and DVDSP forums. Search there and you’ll find loads of info.
