It’s simply a case of animating the “Depth Scale” property for the Set that the object is in. You also need to move the pivot point to front of the object in the Setup window. If you do a search in the archives you’ll find plenty of information on how to do this.

It certainly can and I’m sure most of time is done in AE. You can get this kind of effect by simpling masking a frame that you want to be the “cartoon” frame and treating it using whatever color/stylize etc effects you want to get the look you are after. You might then go from moving vision to until you reach this frame then “reveal” this frame using masks or other transitions, hold that frame while some text writes on etc. and then transition back to the vision. These holds can be done using Time Remapping and Hold keyframes.
My question to you is: do you really need to do this effect? It has been done and done again so many times on TV that it’s become a cliche in my opinion.

you can fix the compound path for the O using Illustrator. I’m not sure how to do this in Photoshop. If you email me the file I’ll fix it for you (and let you know what I did).

I’m no expert but if you shot progressive (24p) why are you rendering out to fields? Try rendering with fields off.

It won’t keep the textures unfortunately, but it won’t be a blocky clump either, just a colorless model.
