Check the drive you’re using. Select it and hit CMD+I. Does the user on the edit system have permission to read and write the drive?

That’s not so much what I was asking, but I did discover that if you optimize/transcode media, then you move that out of the event into the location where you store your prores media, you can relink the DNxHD files to the ProRes and you’ll maintain all your keywords without an issue.
Just tried it and it worked. Whew!

I always go with the fastest processor I can get, so I’d go with the 2.8. Since you have a Thunderbolt drive, you’re probably great with 512.
With the Display, I would totally wait till summer on that particular purchase. The reason being – the current displays are based on the old iMac displays, not the new ones. There’s a really strong chance that the current Thunderbolt displays will be updated in the next 5 or 6 months, if not sooner. Once you’ve used the new iMac display, the older displays feel like mirrors. That’s totally worth waiting on, IMHO.
And one overall note, in June I think the Haswell processor is coming out, which would probably be updated in the macbook pros shortly thereafter.

Just to throw it out there but in those FCPX IN Action videos I mostly stick with compounds. The smaller media gets imported into sparse disks but it’s mostly referenced as well. This lets us bounce around between systems rapidly (so rapidly we had to install intercoms yell at each other to mount and unmount stuff).
Anyways, projects are mostly used when we need to share outside or with other elements like exporting for protools. We think of it like a docking bay on the galactica. it’s where you put stuff to get them in and out. That said projects are a little more stable, in our experience.

What I do is make an event called ‘Import’ and then import like normal. After that, we copy the media we’ve transcoded from the ‘optimized’ media folder and drag it through finder to wherever we keep our referenced media at. It ain’t perfect, but it works.
