Really nice, Conner. Subtle without overwhelming you. Great work!

Let’s hope something like that gets incorporated into 10.9 “Sex Panther”.

Lance, if you do a search for the first file in the list of files your reconnecting/relinking and type it in I think in the spotlight column at the top right (I think) and relink that one file, all files within the list reconnect assuming they’re ‘near’ the file you link to. Right?

I checked the disk – it was all well. To be clear, it was greyed out if you looked at the heiarchy tree in finder from the client computers, but invisible on the server. All media was still accessible and mountable. For whatever reason it just went invisible on the server, but this fixed it.

Definitely keeping an eye on it though.

    Somebody else found the solution:

  • [Marcus Moore] “Not sure why this is, but it is.”

    And it’s super annoying, too.

  • I always found Motion integration with FCP7 buggy and crashed more often than not. I may be wrong, but this seems to really work better than it did in 7. Making your own transitions and effects from motion into FCPX for free is pretty awesome, too.

  • [Bret Williams] “So either sugarfx light pack is corrupt or not compatible with 10.0.8.”

Glad you were able to narrow it down. Heck, probably 99% of the time it wouldn’t create a crash. Welcome to the 1%!

  • If you use only one viewer instead of two, does this still happen? If the scopes are above rather than to the left does it happen? I’m on an identical imac and can’t recreate this. I suppose you could delete the program and reinstall/download.

I wonder if maybe there’s a 3rd party plugin being referenced by a compound clip or project that blows the program’s mind somewhere. We had one issue where I had 3 generators layered in a compound clip and it would force a crash that was pretty devastating. Just selecting the clip would force a freeze.

I wonder if you can hide all of your events (event manager x or whatever you use to manage events) and work normally? This is definitely not normal behavior.

If you haven’t tried the free trial of FCPX, I wholeheartedly suggest you do it. We shoot with the FS700 all the time and that media comes over ridiculously fast via SD card. The CF should be almost as fast. If you select the ‘optimize’ option in the import dialogue, FCPX will create the optimized prores 422 media automatically.

From there, you can copy the optimized AND original media from the event folder that FCPX creates to whatever folder or NLE you want to work in. Copy it out, don’t reference it. Other programs do things to media that FCPX doesn’t like.

Not saying you have to cut it in FCPX, but it’s hands down the best and easiest way we’ve found to import and convert to Prores from a FS700.

    Good luck!
