    Hey Jeremy,

It’s 10.5.6 and it’s a less than 3 month old Mac Pro 2.8. Everything is running the most recent software…
My sequence is rendered out as prores, but my source video is animation codec quicktime rendered out of AE. The project is for a :20 second promo. I just flushed PRam again so it’s gone again. I guess that’s a short term solution….

Dang – I suck. I’m using ProRes 8bit, not even HQ. I’m sorry, I should have mentioned that.

Jesus! Who puts a black list in a contract? Sounds like a list of 25 people to call who will cheer you up about it not working out.

Go outside for a nice walk in Brentwood and enjoy the sun. It’s a gorgeous day here in LA, so if you have to wait a week on a check, that’s not too bad. There’s no sense in blowing gaskets or anything else for that matter. If you need to vent, write an email calling them every name in the book, and then delete it. You can laugh about all the creative insults you came up with while walking in a neighborhood most people dream of living in, and listen to some Kansas/Carry On My Wayward Son on your ipod (or iphone, if you wanna take it up a level).

Relax buddy – it’s a great day to be alive! Don’t fly too high! (Why am I so in to Kansas today???).

Thanks Dave, turns out not to be so bad. Whoever built this project was using an Open Type version of the font rather than a TTF or Post Script, so when I installed the Mac download of the font from t26.com, it wasn’t seeing the Open Type and wouldn’t connect to the font.

A quick email to tech support there got me an OT version of the font I needed. Problem solved!

  • Thanks David. I’m the best reader in my preschool class. I guess it shows! :-).

I don’t even want to think about Open GL. For me the pain of that disappointment is still to near…

I’d be happy with a real 3D application from Adobe that is separate from AE (although I’d prefer it to be incorporated – I hate bouncing between applications). Imagine something like Maya but with Adobe interface design (so that feels like it’s part of the Adobe family).

This shouldn’t be interpreted as a ‘trash adobe’ post. I can’t imagine where my business would be without Photoshop, Illustrator, and AE. I just wish they’d spend more time on real production applications and less on apps like “Adobe Media Player”, Adobe Drive, Version Cue, and all those other applications that there’s just no demand for (in my opinion – some people might LOVE those apps, I just don’t know anyone that does).

Perhaps they’re waiting for Motion 3 to show them what the people want….

  • After playing with it a little bit, the CS4 option doesn’t work that great. Sure, you can bring in a model and with Horizon you can get some bearable rotate/pans, but asinine is really the best word to describe it. God forbid in one of these CS updates we get usable 3D capabilities. In my opinion, it seems like Adobe made obj imports work just enough to say they added it, and that’s about it.

At this point, is there really much else Adobe can add to AE besides real, workable 3D and/or animation? You know when you work on a project that’s extremely challenging and you do all the easy work first just to put off doing the really hard stuff? That’s what I think of when I look at the last two CS updates. I know that AE isn’t really a 3D program, but shouldn’t some of these ‘under the hood’ updates address that and give us real 3D already?

Crazy thing was, today I just had ichat/mail/safari/itunes open when it happened. There wasn’t any hardcore work going on other than I had just booted up about 30 minutes prior.
