I’ll talk to my programmers and see what we can do. It’s such a pain to even get the version number of your plugins – just that would be a good first step. I’d probably want it to contain a way of easily storing your serial numbers as well.

After Effects really needs it’s own plugin manager that’s baked into the application.

And if this doesn’t exist – would a little application that did that be worth $2 or $3 to you guys?

Thanks Craig. For some reason I expected to see more posts about CS5 upgrades on this forum. Perhaps many people are waiting for plugins to catch up before they upgrade.

I got the Blackbird Stabilizer. I don’t like loading up a lot of crap on my camera, so it was a decent choice for me. Focusing isn’t the easiest feat – but lots of folks recommend sticking with wider angle lenses with a higher f-stop which eliminates much of the need.

If you’re running wildly after your target, it’s not going to be easy to focus. If you’re walking, focusing isn’t terribly difficult.

I haven’t actually used it for a spot yet, but I did shoot this the day after I got it. Test out as many rigs as you can.

I agree. A few other moments where I had that experience were the first time I used VX100 with 24p look, the first time I reviewed footage shot with a Z1u, first slomo with HVX200, and then the HVX200 with Letus Extreme and Canon lens. With the 7D, I get all of that in the palm of my hand and little to no light. It’s been my absolute favorite toy for months now.

Now when the el cheapo RED camera comes out things may change again…..it’s a fantastic time to be in our industry. Cheap, amazing tools abound!

Think of the lens as a gear. If you shrink one side (zoom in), the aperture is forced to get smaller. You’re most likely rocking a 28-135mm lens, which is a manual lens that forces the f-stop change, no matter what, when you zoom. If you’re at 13, locked down and pulled out, then slowly zoom, the internal gears will force the fstop to go to 14 and then likely 15 when you’re zoomed in full.

I was mystified too – thinking of it like a gear helped me understand it. More expensive lenses have better gears and don’t require this. Although, I rarely zoom – it’s more about sliders and cranes these days.

First I was super pissed that I just shot a spot last week and was thinking I’d have to reshoot. Then I was trying to wrap my head around the awesomeness of the update (160fps!) and how screwed RED was, and then I was crushed. Crushed. But at least I don’t have to reshoot my spot, so that’s something.

I hope Sarah Jessica Parker and Jeff Goldblum are ok…

I think the idea that teachers would have any desire to take over the services you provide is laughable. Sure, they’ll go in, listen while you show them what you do, and then return to the previous state of being teachers. A wise teacher once told me “If you can’t do it, manage it, and if you can’t manage it, teach it.”

Your client relationship is very safe.

  • Rolled back to the 7.5 drivers and the problem disappeared. Won’t be updating again anytime soon ;-).

James, did you get an answer from Enhance? I have the ProAvio 8MS Mini-SAS (which is basically the same company/enclosure) and also have the Highpoint 4322. I’d love to hear which card they suggested you switch to. No problems (yet) with my highpoint card, but I’d rather abandon ship before I hit the iceberg, so to speak.

    Thanks!
