Take a look at the Generate > Audio Spectrum or Audio waveform effects and add it to a solid. Just add the audio to your project and point the effect to the audio layer.

Also right click on the QT in the project window and check to see if field interpolation is turned on correctly for your footage. DV footage is Lower, HD is upper – if not progressive.

AE FAQ: Why is my output file huge?? The short answer though is After Effects renders files to uncompressed “AVI’s”. If you want to compress your files AE can do it, but it’s not the best tool. The general work formula is to take that uncompressed file to media encoder where it can do a much better compression job.

Here’s a from VideoCopilot that shows one of creating the smoke/wipe you are trying to achieve, but it’s may be a bit advanced. If you to a google search for “create smoke after effects” you will find a lot of different recipes for creating smoke(there are a ton)

There are so many variables there the question is pretty hard to answer. We don’t know the size of the composition, the number of effects and most importantly your computer, processing power and RAM.

There are lot of threads dealing with speeding up AE here at the Cow, so you might want to do a search. But if you don’t have a fast computer there is not a lot you can do to make things much faster.

After you have the in the render you queue, “Cntl+A” will select all the comps and you can change your render settings(Best, DV, Draft).

To change the output module select the title “Output Module:” now and now go the last one you want to render with the same settings and while holding down “shift” select “Output Module:” Now you can use the pulldown to change all the output modules of the selected comps.

Do you have a DVD recording program? Just burning a couple of files to a DVD disc wont work. I work with AE and Adobe Encore and if I”m going to burn straight out of AE, I would use the DVD preset, open up Encore and drop it into a timeline and burn from there.

If you are using Windows to make your dvd, I believe you need to find a way to create a .iso or .img file. You can probably find a program out there to create an .iso or .img from your mpeg2 or m2v files.
