Sorry, my original comment was for someone else I should of put “Remove”.
There is a effect/plugin you can download from AETuts, if you are a premium member. Membership is 15 bucks a month, so you could get one month and get the plugin. You would probably want to watch the tutorial, it’s not the most intuitive interface.
Creating a simple pendulum expression isn’t very hard, but I’m not sure how to create it without messing up your current key frames. If you explain on the expressions forum about the linked unfolding + pendulum motion they probably will be able to help design an expression that will suit your needs.

What you posted was the project, but not the footage. The project has the jpg and png files(missing) in a comp, but no .ai files. Put the problem .ai files in the project and put them in a comp where they don’t work properly so I(or someone else) can see what the problem might be.

Being that it’s a precomp your text is going to move as a group. If you had used path options within the text you can have 1 letter turn, followed by another and another as they all navigate the path. I made a quick example project to show the difference:
To get the text precomp to turn though, press “cntl + alt + o” and change auto orientation to “Orient Along Path”

If so, create a solid and add Noise & Grain -> Fractal Noise and mess around with the settings until you get a pattern you like. Place it over your image and mess around with the transfer modes. You could also add some color to fractal noise once you get the pattern to your liking. Also, if you aren’t familiar, you can use the evolution settings to make the light move over time.
The Generate -> Cell Pattern effect also might be a good starting point.

Have you tried using the Generate -> Write-on effect. You can change the Brush Time Properties to have a key framable thickening and thinning stoke.

If you don’t mind, use the “collect files” command, zip the project and post here. If it’s really huge, make a small project showing the problem and I’ll take a look and see where/if/what the problem might be.

Use the pen tool and create your path. You can create it on your layer, or a solid, doesn’t matter, but I think it will be easier if you create it on a layer that is the same size as your composition(so creating it on a solid will probably be best).
Now twirl down the mask properties or just press “M”. Click on “Mask Path” so it’s highlighted and press “cntl + c” to copy the mask path. Now select the layer you want to move and open the position property, select position and press “cntl + v” to paste the path into position.
You can paste the path into anything that has can accept a path, including text animators. The keyframes that are pasted are roving, but can change them by selecting them all, right clicking on one and uncheck roving.

In adobe you need to enable the Continuously rasterize checkbox, it looks like a little sun. If you don’t see it, click your composition timeline and press F and it your “switches” column should come up.

I’m not fully understanding the problem. Just to be clear you have a composition with video in it, you have text over that video and you are using the text as a track matte for the video, creating text with video in it.
You bring this composition into a new project and want to animate it, but are just creating shape layers? Is your precomped video-text layer selected, or any layer selected? That’s usually the reason I create shape layers when I did not intend to do that.
