    Hi,

I’m trying to create a subtle dappled light effect in After Effects for a Uni project but haven’t been able to find a tutorial or work out how to do it myself (I’m relatively new to After Effects). Does anyone know a way I could do this?

    Many thanks

Do you mean like you in this picture: https://www.nikdaum.com/news/mai97.jpg

If so, create a solid and add Noise & Grain -> Fractal Noise and mess around with the settings until you get a pattern you like. Place it over your image and mess around with the transfer modes. You could also add some color to fractal noise once you get the pattern to your liking. Also, if you aren’t familiar, you can use the evolution settings to make the light move over time.

The Generate -> Cell Pattern effect also might be a good starting point.
