Another option would be to create your comp in an HD comp, but center cut it, black bars on each side.
The best thing to do,= is call the people with the projector/screen and ask/talk with them about what deliverable will provide the best display BEFOER YOU START. They might say 720×486, 720p, 1080i, thing is you won’t know until you ask and you might end up doing work that will need to be redone because it doesn’t work for them.(sadly I speak with WAY too much experience on this issue.)

If you planned it out ahead of time (greenscreens, shot correctly) you could create 2 layers of the video, time remap it and just mask the area you want in slow motion.
If it’s not shot well though, you will have very visible seams between the the stuff moving at regular speed and the slow motion, it will look like 2 different shots composited on top of each other.

To add to what Ted suggested, if you have glows I would suggest changing the background color of your comp(cntl + K) to a color that’s similar to your glow color. Often if I’m rendering text with a glow with a straight alpha as the alpha fades off I pick up black outlines. By changing the background color and using a pre-multiplied alpha as the alpha fades in the glow area it picks up a color similar to your glow rather than black.
Least that how it works on an avid.

I’m not sure what the 2s/1s mean, but Cntl+3 brings up the Preview window options, is that what you need?

Okay I just tried this, I imported a graphic with an alpha channel and left it alone. Then I imported the graphic again, so I have two copies of it and set the interpretation to ignore. Same video with and without alpha channel. Is that what you are trying to accomplish?

When you render and export a movie, the default ouptut settings are for files that are not intended for playback, see this answer from Adobe: FAQ: Why is my output file huge, and why doesn’t it play back smoothly in a media player?

Are you looking to have a Background color on the bottom layer? You could add Channel -> Solid Composite to the bottom layer.

I use that one on a 25″ dual monitor system(Avid). I think it’s an A4, I know it’s not one of the A3’s.
