You need to use time remapping to ramp up and down a layers’s speed. When you enable time remapping the length of the layer does change but not in the way you seem to want. A 10 second layer with time remapping now has an infinite length because you can slow it down to a freeze frame if you want.

When you enable Time-remapping, you create 2 keyframes, one at the beginning of the clip and one at the end. To do what you are describing you need to move the end keyframe also to keep things running smoothly.

For example, let’s say you want to speed up the middle of your layer. Enable Time remapping. Go to the point where you want the action to speed up and use add keyframe selector(looks like a little diamond) to add a keyframe. Go to where you want the layer to resume it’s normal speed and use the diamond to add another keyframe. Now grab the 2nd keyframe you added plus the last keyframe on the layer(the last frame of the layer) and move them both at the same time to change the speed of you layer in the middle. Finally, go to where your last keyframe is and using “alt + ]” will trim the layer to your new end point.

Here’s one method, but it will only work if your waveform extends past the left and right borders of the composition. Create your composition and waveform. Now render out a png sequence to a folder. Open up photoshop and create/record an action using the magic wand tool to sample an area where on one side of the line. Where you sample must always fall on that side of the line. So if your waveform was in the middle of your comp(like in your picture) you could sample at the bottom right of the .png and should be good. If it’s on the ‘wrong’ non-filled side, invert the selection and fill it. You could with a little work create an action to create an alpha channel or another layer to use as a matte.

Finally just batch automate the entire .png sequence and you have a filled waveform.

You need to render your movie with an alpha channel. First double check to make sure you have a transparent background by clicking on the “checkerboard” underneath the Comp Work area, if you see the checkerboard when you click it, you have transparency.

So press “shift+cntl+/” to add your comp to the render queue, choose your render settings, then choose your output module. You will need to choose one that supports an alpha channel. Quicktime-Animation is a good one, in that it’s lossless and supports an alpha(though it delivers massively sized files). To activate the alpha go to Video Output > Channels and change it from the default of “RGB” to “RGB + Alpha” Now render away.

For exponential scale, you need to select to 2 “Scale” keyframes. You can read more about it on the Help Page

You can also try the Luma Key effect. Set it to “Key Out Brighter” and adjust the parameters(mainly threshold start it out at 255 and start going down) and see if you can get a decent key.

If you can create the swipe animation, then all you need to do is create precomps for your videos. Say Video 1/Reflection 1 would be a precomp, then when you want to change the video, you step into the precomp, change it and both the video and reflection will be replaced.
