I just purchased a new iMac with El Capitan 10.11 and am in the process of installing the latest media composer. So this is troubling to hear. I hope this is not a problem for everyone.
I don’t know much in the way of trouble shooting, but I did notice your computer specs said OS 10.11.3
The latest update is 10.11.4, so maybe by a small miracle the problem doesn’t exist in this update…
However i think you’d have to re-install Avid again.Id be interested to know how you worked around this.

I believe Alan said he has Flash CS3. This is probably why he has the flash export option in MPEGstreamclip. Unless you have Flash you wont be able to export to it without the other programs mentioned above.

Sorry I haven’t responded right away, if you still haven’t fixed it heres what I know.
I think starting a new project and at least a new sequence and just copying the cut sequence into the new one worked. It didnt work the first time but I did it again.The real way to fix it is to just upgrade to FCP 6 – they have the ProRes codec and you just don’t get as many problems with the HDV format like that.
But hopefully you found a way – just try all the other things, other people recommended it should work eventually.

I was thinking – I feel like the long term effect of these flash memory devices hasn’t really been taken into account. Over time, and maybe its a long time but eventually the cards could corrupt, one day you put the card in – start to shoot, and it malfunctions, then what.
At least with tape, you buy a new tape and you know its good, once you digitize it your done. As far as archiving, some tapes go bad over time too, but who really archives on tapes any way, and if you do you have several copies of it.But I guess like anything – problems could arise. The bottom line is tapeless media has pros that out weigh the cons – its probably a good thing, unless you are a post house that makes their money on dubs, eventually everything will be made, viewed and delivered digitally no more large tape decks.

Thank you for that wealth of knowledge it helped a lot. I still can’t decide which to get, but at least now my decision will be an educated guess rather than guessing blind.
If you don’t mind I have another question.
I don’t know how much you know about HDV cameras, but within the sony world, what are the differences between say the A1U, V1U, and Z1U. Which would be the best for the cost.Thanks

I heard of a hard disk coming out – the PHU 60k – it hooks up to the cards and records directly on the hard disk, is this available already – and how much do you think it will be, or is.

thank you all for the help. Even though I still have the problem.
I trashed render files I trashed pref files and I tried new sequences and new projects.
Still nothing new.
It is possible the capture was bad or the tape was bad but I no longer have the camera to check that.Since I can export without it being a problem, I have just dealt with the fact I cant see a transition in real time before I export.
The ProRes Codec is just for FCP 6 I believe, or whatever the one that comes with studio 2 is.So my options are slim – I think the best answer might be to upgrade to the latest FCP. and do the ProRes thing.
However my hard drive has some problems now and I meed to fix that first – but thats a whole other post -
I have since trashed my preferences – and I have the same problem
Just to make sure I am doing it right – I trashed only the 1 Pref. file in the library for FCP not any of the cache files – should I trash those too ?

Also the FCP version is 5.1.4 not 5.2 – I don’t know why I typed that
