HDV transition issues with FCP 5.2
I am working on a mac with FCP 5.1.4
I shot some HDV 1080i60 footage on a Sony Z1U
It captured fine, and it plays fine
The sequence settings are the same as the clips, full resolution, no compression, no rendering. The problem is when I go to put on a cross dissolve or any kind of transition, even if I manualy with the pen tool mark points and fade 1 clip in or out. It doesn’t play right.
How it plays is this: It will start to fade up correctly for half the length of the transition, then the second half of the transition will be just black. then the rest of the clip plays fine. On a second viewing it appears that the first half of the transition that actually fades up, is playing at twice the speed, hence the black on the second half.
Hopefully that makes sense. An important note, is before rendering the transition it will, frame for frame, play the way it is supposed to. It is a little jumpy because it is unrendered but its right. But once rendered, it plays the way I said above.
On exporting it, if I export it to a quicktime straight, as a FCP file it will look fine. If I export it converting it to QT, compressing it or whatever, it will have the frames of black.
This never happened before with any other formats so I assume it has something to do with HDV codec – I have tried new projects, with new clips in new sequences and it is all the same.
It is a major problem, I can not edit anything if I cant do a simple dissolve.
Hopefully this makes sense and I will be very grateful if any one can give me any kind of explanation or solution
