I don’t want to hijack this thread but this is related.
About 2 in 10 times when I’m laying back uncompressed 8 bit 1080p 23.98 footage to either D5 or HDSR, I get a “writing video” box that generally takes a few minutes for a 15 minute timeline. Longer the timeline the longer the “writing to video”. Never says anything about rendering and my timeline is always fully rendered before this happens.
Latest FCP, Kona 3, 4TB Xserve, 3TB internal raid
Any ideas on that one?

Makes total sense to do a hard matte. I just though all of his footage was that way, so in effect doing the same thing.

Cropping in FCP doesn’t change the sequence settings. Why bother with a slug?

Either. In fcp there’s a crop feature. Check out the manual.

Not a problem if you are going to tape. As someone stated above it’s not visual as it’s in overscan.
DON’T blow up your picture. Just crop out the top few lines of video.

You can also just create a custom output module. Then your specific settings will appear on the drop down list in the render queue.

You never gave specifics except that it was in introductory university class and you needed editing software for basically free. So I guess instead of laugh they gave you constructive criticism. 🙂Anyways,
I would really look into Final Cut Express. It’s under 200 bucks.Best,

File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Uncheck the “Make Self-Contained” checkbox.
Bring this file into compressor and use the 120 min best quality preset.
In the summary panel it will give you an estimated file size. Make sure it’s small enough to fit on a dvd including your audio. If it’s over reduce your bit rate in the quality controls.Best,

Can’t he just scale up the one letter? I’ve had to do that before with certain fonts.
Either way, this sounds like a problem with the font, not AE.

Same here. You should be able to just click to say okay, then click back and it should open up. Just one of those things.
