  • Thanks for your tips. Yes, I must have installed the wrong hack on one of the cameras although I was wary of this happening. As I say, I should have been more careful.

Is the hardware conversion option something I can do myself (ie. with Compressor or another plugin) or are better results available by taking the footage to a professional?

This is all music to my ears! The dreaded spectre of a sleepless night full of “out of memory” errors was looming!

I Imported and transcoded from MTS to begin with. Then edited the project and exported as Pro Res. Now I’d like to reimport and export one more time, which by my count makes 3 generations. Is that right?

So there’s no degradation whatsoever in the first 5 generations?

I see. The account seems to be the issue as I have saved and loaded the same project a number of times without any problems under a different user account.

Now that I know the solution to the problem I need to think about transferring all my data over from one user account to the other. Do you know of a way to simply “clone” or “copy” user account data, settings etc? What’s the best way to do this.

Thanks so much for your guidance. Much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Joey

Hi Petros. Thanks for the tips. I have tried deleting the preferences and have just re-installed the program but the issue keeps occurring.

My computer is less than a month old so there really shouldn’t be an issue with the user account but I guess that might be the case. I don’t know what else to do now so I guess I should give it a go. Is there any reason I couldn’t just create a new user account and test it on that one before taking the extreme measure of deleting my old one?

    Thanks,
    Joey

  • Mark, I’m in the same boat as you. I’m completely baffled by the lack of any other apps like cinema tools, as the 60-24/25 batch conform feature has been an absolute staple of my workflow.

However, I’ve decided to switch to Adobe Premiere in the wake of FCX and am now lost without cinema tools. I don’t have the luxury of installing it because I previously used FCP as a student on University computers.

    Can anybody help? Please?

    Hi Rainer,

I am editing HD material from two DSLRs on an iMac 11.1 Intel core i7 2.8GHz and 4GB of RAM.

At this stage, due to budgetary constraints, upgrading the system is out of the question. I’ll have to work with what I’ve got. So unfortunately no Raid, SAS or anything else of the sort. It’s FW 800 to the end.

Do you have any suggestions for my situation? I didn’t quite understand – is it bad to have my media files buried deep in folders and sub-folders worth of stuff?

    Thanks for your help.

Thank you very much for the great tips. I followed your instructions and after a lot of mistakes and lessons learnt, I came up with something I was relatively happy with (considering it was my first foray into AE!

Id you’d like to see what I came up with it’s in this video, about 23 seconds in.

    Thanks again!
