Static bug without moving, just so file size is small. you then either paste it over and over in the FCP timeline or precomp it in another FCP timeline.

    Good luck,

Is it taking a second or so to get past title safe?

  • 1. Does cropping an image in a precomp make renders faster?

No, I think it still has to render the entire frame of the precomp then it crops after rendering.

    2. Does using a lower resolution still file make a render faster, even if it is being precomped into a large subcomp that is being used as an image map?

Definitely, this is huge. 10000+ pixels is a lot of data. If you can bring the size down it will help a lot.

    3. Anyone have any insite on how we might reduce render time?

    Here are some Ideas:
Pre-render the globe animations and match your camera move in the new comp.

Unless it’s key to use motion blur, try and use a directional blur to simulate motion blur.

Use the large map as little as possible. Only for ECU shots and create a map about 2000X2000 for the pull outs. Use a quick dissolve to get from high res to low res with some blur to distract the eye.

Of course the biggest time saver would be to pre-render the globe in a 3d program that can handle big #ss maps like MAYA or C4D.

    Hope this helps,

Sounds like a color space/alpha issue. Is your alpha in AE pre-multiplied or straight. If it is pre-multiplied then change it to straight and try again.

However, I’d make an AE comp the exact size of the bug (therefore keeping the file size way down) and render it as a movie (3 min long or so) without animation. Then render a 2-5 second bug animation that the editor can then drop in anywhere he/she wants. just make sure the start frame and end frame are the same as the still movie.

    peace,

November 12, 2006 at 5:28 pm in reply to: HOW TO USE AE7 WITH INTEL MACS

So here is a question. All examples so far have been based off machines with 3 GB of ram. Since AE has a 3GB limit do those of us that have more ram (5GB) use our total ram amount or 3GB to calculate the percentage that equals 1.5GB?

Try moving one of the 3D layers a little further to the camera in z-space so the layers are not so close. 10 pixels seems to work for me…

October 19, 2006 at 2:56 pm in reply to: AE7/Mac Pro – Incessant Crashes!

I’ve been through the ringer with this one. What it comes down to is that AE7.0 is not approved for Intel Macs. It’s terrible but there is nothing you can really do about until Adobe releases the Unversal Binary version of AE (which I’m assured they are working on)

Here are a few tips that may help:

    1. don’t try and open AE 6.5 projects in 7 (on Intel Macs) It will crash every time.
    2. Ditch your open GL plugin and make sure open GL is off.
    3. Projects that are started on the macbook pro have a better chance of working. Stuff originated on a power PC will probably crash or crash during render.
    4. Render TGA sequences so when it does crash you don’t loose what you have already rendered.
    5. Hiding AE completely during renders seems to help make it through renders.
    6. Set AE to autosave every 5 min. or so.
    7. Hit caps lock before you render so AE is not trying to preview frames on the screen while rendering.
    8. And finally, pray to whichever God you subscribe to that it will work!

This being said, it’s still gonna crash a lot. These are some things I’ve been doing to minimize the problem but they don’t solve the problem 100% (more like 50%).

    Ron,

You’re right and please see my other post. I’m just totally frustrated. I did do my homework and, you’re correct, I chose not to listen. However, forging ahead has never been easy in the tech world. I just hope this is resolved soon. I love FCP and AE together and I feel like I made a decision to stick with what I know (death to most in the tech world). Thanks for you words of wisdom. $$ is tight here and I’m kicking myself now.

Sometimes until we make the mistakes ourself, it’s hard to listen to others advice.
