    Steven,

I’m not sure I totally understand. We will import the edl and lay that above the imported QT of the movie. When you say ‘razor cut’ is that an automated process/technique? I’m trying to avoid going to each cut manually to create the break, I know I can do that, I’m looking for a faster “auto-cut” or breakdown technique. What do you mean by ‘razor cut’? Joe

    Thanks, Film Joe

I do have the matching timeline of the original edit. I do not want to batch digitize (over 300 tapes) as effects have been added in Avid, etc. I only want to color correct from the edit master. But I need to breakdown the master hour tape into the cut points for color correct.

I noticed you use a sata RAID and dual fibre. What brand? We have a dual fibre Medea SAN on a MacPro and G5, but I’d like to add a 2TB local sata to the MacPro to handle 444 10bit. Is there a card conflict issue? Can you recommend a good price/performance drive set?

    Jeff,

You note incredible support from MetaSan? We found just the opposite. We spoke to a person who took your name and problem who did not know about the system and he relayed messages. We were Mac based. It never seemed to function long-term so we de-installed it.

    Did I miss something here?

    Thanks, Film Joe

Thanks. I do not plan to have the Kona drivers on the same system (I don’t think) as the Avid, just use the software of Avid to control the media on the SAN. If I go in or out, I’d always use the other Mac that has the Avid hardware on it.

So I input on the Avid Mac, the simulaneously use the FCP Mac’s Xpress software to sync dailies of that media on the Medea array. Any output would be done back on the Avid Mac.

So there are no Avid drivers on the FCP Mac, right? I know this is hard to explain and even harder to be sure I’m saying it right.

Shane, small apology, I replied hastily and did not realize that the second email came from you after the previous response you showed on someone using both with slightly different OS versions.

But you know how Avid and others never say other software is compatible (even though files are different of course.

Thank you, I am aware the media is different and I would not be reading one’s media from the other, just wanting to use different projects at different times.

    Thanks,

Avid will not tell you, they don’t test these things, they just say, ‘it’s not a confirmed use’. So the other response in this thread shows that someone has been doing it for a while with no problems.

And Kona says that even having the Avid codec in FCP is a conflict and should be deleted, but we have had no problem. I was looking for what works in the field even though not approved by either.

Thanks for the OS warning. If I have 10.4 is it costly to get a 10.3 OS version? And currently I’m running my FCP on top of Server X software. That should still work for Avid, right?
