Thanks for responding Douglas. Last year our external waveform monitor died and we haven’t replaced it as of yet. I just rendered out the spot and checked levels and they were fine. I then printed to tape (Beta SP through a UVW-1800) from the rendered uncompressed AVI. I then reingested the beta through the AJA Machina application and opened the AVI through Vegas. The reingested file shows the levels slightly below 7.5 but the histogram now shows values at 0. Any ideas?
Thanks again for your help. I do have your DVD on color correction and it has helped tremendously.

Interesting Stephen. I’ll give that a whirl tonight. I think we did find the problem. Like Jeff suggested, we installed Win 7 without any of the updates and it’s been running stable without any hiccups for a couple of hours now. I actually tried to crash it by putting a bunch of ProRes, P2 MXF and some raw H.264 on the same timeline and no crash. The only goofy thing it did was the audio playback went garbled but after restarting Vegas, all was right again. Wierd. I’ll have to check into the audio drivers (Creative Labs Xtreme), but so far so good.
    Thanks again guys.

Thanks everyone for your input. We’re running system diagnostics on it right now to see if there many be a hardware issue but everything is coming up fine so far. Next step I think we’re going to try Jeff’s suggestion of running Win 7 without any of the updates on a raw system. It’s not that it crashes all the time, it’s just unstable at the wrong times (there’s really never a “right” time I guess). I’m really hoping to get this rectified…next option is going back to Avid MC….and I don’t want to even think about that.
    Thanks again.

Thanks John. I really appreciate your input. I’ll give that a shot when I get back into the studio tomorrow. Mike, I figured this must have been covered before but I never thought to search interlacing or problems with the aspect. I thought this must have been a setting with the aliasing. Thanks again guys.

Thanks Mike. I’ve always been an Avid jockey and just recently moved into the world of Vegas. I’ve always trusted the internal Avid waveforms so I never knew there was any reason to doubt Sony’s. Frustrating, but thanks for the information. I just can’t understand how it can be so far off. Big question, why would my preview monitor (which is calibrated correctly) play back my Beta SP dubs and look perfect? I would think that with a calibrated monitor, what you see is what you get. Am I wrong in this? Does the IRE level only come into play when it is broadcast?
    Thanks again for your input.

I just tried the Connect HD trial and everything works flawlessly. I still can’t figure out why the m2t files lag so badly. Thanks for the replies.
