I think this effect is not difficult but a little boring to make.
The simplest way is to create the letters one by one,and set key frames for them manually.
That will be ……..boring.
With the type tool of AE6.5,It can be make in a easier way.But only a little simplier.

It’ normal that sometimes some plugins would make your AE crashed especially when you make some mistakes.Then ,when you opened you crashed project again ,it would keep crashing again and again.It seems the file you last saved had become a “bad” file.
There is a trick to avoid crashing again and save you project.
Open your AE,then make a NEW project,push Capslock in your keyboard,after that you can import the “bad” project file into this project.Now open the composition you last modified,DEl the last effect you applied to the layer,or just turn off it.At last,hit Caplock,you work would have come back,and you can adjust your mistake,congratulations!****************************

Pay attention to the effects you have applied.
Did you main 3D Invigorator by “Invigorator” ?It can often be a render hog.It always require so much time to render especially if you were making a complex shape.If the laye applied with this plugin did not have many action in 3D sence(for example:rotation),you’d better render the layer into a still image and replace the layer with the still image,and adjust motion of it.Then you would find the render time would be greatly reduced.Digital Anarchy is probably the second render hog.It cost too much time sometimes.
Light Factory usually do not require too much time to render,except in case that I require toooooooooo many light effects.
In one word,AE some time works like a little fool,It do not know how to save time.So you must find out what is wrong and help AE to overcome it.By the way,I think that the best work is not the one with the most effects.Before you applied an effect to your work,make sure if it is necessary.
