I am having a weird problem. when I double click the multiclip in the timeline, I see the three video tracks. but, when I hit play, the selected track fills the viewer. I want to see the three tracks or I won’t know when to switch.

I’m also getting a dropped frame message often. which means playback stops and I have to say ok and hit play again. this is taking forever.

I have been editing for a while and it used to work smoothly. don’t understand the change. I have almost 2 TB available on the drive. so, it’s not scratch space.

first, I mentioned that I do NOT own a DSLR. there is no reason in hell to use a standard def cam. since I don’t own a DSLR, I do not know what type of connectors they use. but, two of the people I shoot live events with use DSLRs and OnLocation. I never asked them how they connect their computers. I use firewire

to answer your question, YES, the overheating problem is limited to the internal card. if you use software like Adobe’s OnLocation, you can record directly to a hard drive. I do this for live events. the camera is on a tripod. I put a table with a laptop next to the tripod and connect via firewire. I click the record button in the software on the screen. the hard drive has a much larger capacity than my SD card. I can shoot an entire event. We do a TV talk show and concerts that way. it would work for any live event where you have your cameras on a tripod

    not the best video ever
I didn’t have access to the band
    they were in sacramento
I had to get this shot and edited
so we took the singer all over the Phoenix area
and shot the song over and over
then I applied a bunch of effects in FCP
I didn’t do any of the motion stuff in this one
but the effects used in the Friday video are available in FCP

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bWF8ozTptc

the motion stuff and masking tools are also available in FCP
I did this whole thing in Motion
but you can use keyframes to move stuff in FCP
you can resize video on different layers
just play until you get it
    it’ll all make sense
