Avid doesn’t change levels when capturing or importing or linking. So something else is wrong. Could be a phase shift or phase inversion when playing back in mono?

  • Still not attractive enough to say goodbye to ScriptSync. Well, actually, it’s not likely that anything ever will justify leaving that wonderful feature.

    Stuck on 7.

This is a known issue. UDevC00186430 – QT SAS Export with Direct Out mixes all audio tracks in two.
    Fixed in 8.2.

OP wants to go to 29.97p. That’s what makes it complicated. I think 25p to 29.97i should be quite OK.

25p has been available for PAL and HD project formats for a long time.

Avid MC in fact _will_ handle that for you. It has had Mix&Match for many versions.

If you link to the 25fps clips in your 29.97 project and transcode, the framerate conversion will be baked in. That is not really the recommended method. Better workflow is to open the 25p clips in a 25p project, transcode the clips at 25p, then open the bin with the resulting 25p clips in a 29.97 timeline. You will notice a green dot, which is a motion adapter that keeps the material running at 100% realtime, enforcing a framerate conversion. You can adjust this, or even promote it to a TimeWarp, which gives you a whole lot more control over how the framerate conversion will look.

That said, a framerate conversion from 25p to 29.97p is not an easy one – not for any software. If quality is paramount, it could be a wiser choice to have everything converted through an Alchemist. But you can also first try the in-MC method and see if that works for you. If not, pull the selects and have them converted and match them back in.

While mix&match allows it, combining 23.976 or 24.000 with 25.000p is going to be very tricky, these are terrible frame rates to mix. I’d try to get the 23.976p stuff speeded up to 25, so you can work with that at 25. Then have someone convert any and all 29.97 sources to 25p for you (although that may sort of work OK inside MC). Work at 25p, master at 25p, deliver from there.

Come and think of it, that functionality may be part of the Symphony option.

In the CC tool, right click and select “Remove Corrections”.

  • I have one Projects workspace where all projects are stored, and then two workspaces per project for media (one for sound, one for picture).
