Thanks Mike, but that seems way too complicated for something as basic as this…

Because Master Suite is not entirely master… you really need Production Suite. It’s a bugger from Adobe.

Morgan, that’s what i tried first, but you cannot set Mask position in AE. Only its shape. If I duplicate the layer and parent it to the null, the whole layer moves and the masked region moves all over the place…

We are using Sony PWV 2600 deck, which apparently has RS-422 remote. So I need just to connect this with PC’s RS port, hook up analog cables between the deck and the capture card, select device control in Premiere and that’s it?

    Thanks for clearing things up!

Steven, I know all that, and it’s not contrary to Jon’s post. RTX2 does realtime editing, but it doesn’t accelerate rendering one iota. It doesn’t. I have sorted that out with Matrox staff. Try to edit a timeline with straight cuts and no effects (yes, there are project like this from time to time) and output that. No matter what settings you select, Matrox does not accelerate rendering.

Thank you Eric, I can see now that the betas have TC indeed. Can you please point me to right direction regarding RS232 device controls? I cannot check now but my HP XW4400 might have the interface and the beta deck has it for sure. Thanks!

I don’t think there is any render accelerator on the market for PPro. Even Matrox RTX2, which makes all editing and effects realtime (the matrox ones) still relies on CPU to do all the math when rendering.

You can accelerate editing and previewing process with a proper gfx/acceleration card, but if you need faster exports, the only way is the more CPU power way.

I have a bunch of historians and war pilots selecting footage from various sources and they write down timecodes (from betas) of shots later to be included in the edit. I know there will be a need for lots of more material than they pick, so I capture whole tapes and need the TC to be able to find stuff later.

    Thanks for your tip.

Thanks for your time Darby. The Comp window was black. Other comps worked fine and I was able to nest the weird comp into a new one and finish it this way (locking view to the new nested comp and working in the original one).

Ironically, all of a sudden it all started to work again (even the original f**ked up comp) after i was done :o)

    I am happy again.
