The trouble with USB is that it uses CPU for transfers, so if your CPU is busy (as it always is when editing), file transfers will get MUCH slower (like 3 MB/s in my case). I have 25-35 MB/s with the exact same drive connected via FW400. FireWire and eSata do not have this issue.

System restore doesn`t recover any user data files, only system files and settings.

Try Stellar Phoenix, it`s really stellar. I was once able to recover ALL files from a drive that has been formatted, repartitioned and formatted again. Just make sure you don`t use the drive with deleted files. If it`s a system drive, plug it into another computer and try the repair from there.

Do I really have to redo ALL shortcuts from scratch? I just cannot seem to get it to work – when I load defaults with ||Czech keyboard selected, they don`t work. When I load them with US keyboard, they disappear after switching back to czech keyboard.

Thanks Carsten, you`re right! I am using Czech keyboard input. When I switch to US, keyboard in FCP works again.

Now, how can I make FCP use default keystrokes without needing to switch to US layout? I need to enter czech text with accents and I don`t like Z and Y swapped wither.

Oh silly me 🙂 The sole delivery format will be SD PAL DVD, I’m almost sure it won’t be widescreen because majority of footage is 4:3.

I edit on FCP on Intel iMac 2,13 GHz, which should be sufficient for SD. There is a possibility of a sponsored quad-mac pro with RAID array (which will be required anyway, right?). FCS 2.

So, you think that the codec of choice should be DVCPRO PAL?

It`s kind of tricky, but you can do it with a bit of precomping and Bezier Warp. Just experiment with timing and the right look.

I would definitely consider buying Cineform though, it REALLY makes things fly with HDV and Adobe apps.

Hi Jon, I know this and am grateful for your work and Harm’s expert help too. I think I know Premiere relatively well and IMHO Nate’s question was very legitimate and not obvious. I just didn’t like Harm’s unneccessarily rude answer.

Harm, please try to read and understand a question before answering in this way. Or do not answer at all.

Nate needs to render more than one video file from a timeline. Since Premiere lacks any kind of batch rendering, this is IMHO not possible in Premiere.

Perry’s solution may be the easiest. There are lots of splitters/joiners like this on the web, sadly most of them are paid shareware. You could use the excellent and free VirtualDub, but IIRC it cannot split file into several pieces, only two at a time.
