FCP forgets keyboard layout
Hello, I have a weird issue with FCP 6.0.3 and keyboard. EVERY time I start the app, it forgets the keyboard layout. I have to go to Tools – Keyboard layouts and select the default layout. No amount of trashing prefs and reinstalling fixes it.
20″ Intel Imac with FCP 6.0.3 and Leopard 10.5.3.
Please help, as this is really annoying. Thanks!

Could it be that your keyboard layout has been created with a different international keyboard setting then you normally/currently using?
That’s the only thing I could think of (other then prefs which already eliminated as the problem)

Thanks Carsten, you`re right! I am using Czech keyboard input. When I switch to US, keyboard in FCP works again.
Now, how can I make FCP use default keystrokes without needing to switch to US layout? I need to enter czech text with accents and I don`t like Z and Y swapped wither.

I’m not sure.
Maybe try to create and save the keyboard layout again with your keyboard prefs set the Czech. I think FCP is aware of the current language setting.Carsten

Somehow I cannot make it stick… I still have to select it again after FCP start…
This probably applies to any keyboard input other than US- please help.

I use the Australian keyboard and don’t have the problem.
When I load my keyboard setting it actually tells me that this setting is for the Australian keyboard.Have you redone your keyboard from scratch while you have the Czech language keyboard selected? and then save it this keyboard under a different name?

Do I really have to redo ALL shortcuts from scratch? I just cannot seem to get it to work – when I load defaults with ||Czech keyboard selected, they don`t work. When I load them with US keyboard, they disappear after switching back to czech keyboard.
It was not a problem with FCP 5. Thanks for your time anyway.

Do you have Administrative control on that machine? If you’re set up as a Guest user or don’t have the proper Admin controls, it might not stick.
