I just use different boot drives in my MacPro, each with a different version. About to dump 5.0.x for 6 on my SSD boot. Got Nikon playback! Thats the beauty of the MacPro. I could have 5 internal boot drives if I wanted! SSD boot in one DVD space. But three is plenty!

10.6.8 also broke MJPEG B access to Media 100 Suite 2.1 for legacy material. I am staying away from it if I can.

Then why doesn’t Adobe just say they are abandoning Mac and get it over with. Then we can all move to Avid where they learned that lesson the hard way. Windows absolutely sucks!

Thanks very much for your very detailed reply. I understand your situation. The depth of your explanation really indicates your dedication to solving all of these issues. It is so much better to get a detailed explanation from someone at the top of the chain rather than “it is in the works”. Rare in this industry. Also glad to know you appreciate some of the differences in the Mac that most Mac users do, whether they consciously realize it or not.Thanks very much for taking so much of your valuable time to explain these systems and software. And congratulations on CS6, it looks like a very large step forward. Anxious to try it on my new 17″ Macbook Pro. Keep up the good work!

I can live with different views, have all my life. Try installing over 100 NLE’s as a business for 7 years. You will run into plenty of different views from customers who were paying between 50 and 100k for Avids and Media 100’s. You had to listen to them. They deserved it. And every system worked perfectly just as it was designed to. I would just like to see better performance and more attention to Mac configurations of Premiere Pro. I think we deserve it. The current FCP Mac market is the prize. Sounds like from the Manager of Engineering at Adobe below that they are doing it. They even do their programming for PP on Macs. All this is very encouraging. Please, just no more rants about Macs and Apple. I’ll try to keep it civil myself.It is absolutely nothing personal. I apologize if it was taken that way.

Tom, you are doing Adobe no favors by continuing to bash the Mac and Apple. They have their own PR group and I don’t think they need you. A very large part of the market they are after prefers that platform. Please just cool it… Respectfully, Jim

Thank you David, it is very reassuring to receive a communication from the senior engineer rather than someone who is basically in PR (no offense, your people are great) I would just like to be be reassured that PP 6.0 and future releases will be equal on both the Mac and the PC relative to hardware and software. At this point it is not the case. Will we see such an equality and in what release? Why does it perform better on the PC when the market you are after has been on the Mac for the last 10 years? Thank you for your efforts, they are much appreciated. I am completely aware I would not have received such a response from Apple. Thanks again, Jim

Mine runs fine on the Nvidia GTX-285 I have. No bad experience there. I’m referring to Mac Pro supplied Radeon 5870 high end OpenCL card which 6.0 does not support. I’m saying it should if they can support other OpenCL chipsets. You would not get the same playback with the 5870 you get with your Quadro. I don’t need first hand experience to know that. Hope they are working on it and we don’t have to pay for it with a .5 as we are having to pay again to get Nikon support back.
