Doesn’t mean we have to take it lying down. Apple management needs to know how much this means to an awful lot of very loyal customers who need to know one way or the other. There are rumors that one may be released third quarter as well. The Mac Pro is important not only in media production. It is very important in science: geology, genetics, etc. Very, very large data sets. And I am not just a fanboy. I was the exclusive Avid dealer in Hawaii in the ’90’s, also Media 100, Play Trinity (ask Karl Soule, he was there), Macromedia, Adobe, etc. It will be a sad day if the Mac Pro is EOL’ed and I won’t likely forgive Tim Cook or whoever made the decision, but I am clinging to the hope that they have decided to support the people who got them through the bad times. At least I have a 2010. I’ll just stop upgrading my software when it no longer works on new versions, cause I’m sure it will run 10 years or longer as all the other Macs I have owned have done.

I am not groveling. You seem to be the Windows shill around here. I merely find the Mac to be the superior machine that is in need of an upgrade and OSX a far better operating system. This comes from experience with both OS’s and having to support both systems. As a video VAR for 10 years with about 250 customers, I got more OS related trouble calls from from the 10 Windows based users I had than the 240 Mac OS systems combined. Why don’t you buy your PC and let us just move on? It is the Mac based users Adobe is going for, after all. How many people do you think the user base of FCP 7 was compared to Premiere before FCPX? Those are the numbers Adobe is running and the users they are after. So is Avid. Both are supporting the Mac because they know those users represent where their growth is. I see no “groveling” in hoping that the hardware/software system that non-linear editing was born on via Avid should continue. I am not “groveling”, I just happen to love my Mac, and based on the current state of Dell and HP, apparently a lot of other people do too. Look at the stock prices. HP almost quit making PC’s less than a year ago. Dell is going in the tank 17% down last week. Apple’s valuation 24x Dell’s. If you want to put your money on those horses, go ahead. But don’t ever insult me with a comment like that again just because I have an opinion that I can back up with the ones of my large sample of editors here in Hawaii. It will be a sad day for a lot of people if the Mac Pro is end of life.

Well I’m not ready to give up. There are apparently a lot of us professionals using FCP 7, trying FCPX and Premiere Pro, moving back to Avid, waiting for Smoke, who want to stay on MacPro’s and not move to Windows (I for one never will). Floh, does the CMD U (Unsync/remove) actually delete (trash) the audio files from the media folder or just remove the link to the audio files which will remain? I would prefer the trash, or at least that option as a space saver. Thanks.

Does Blackmagic have the Adobe drivers ready? That would account for no external playback. Does video playback on the computer monitor? The AJA drivers are not out yet for Adobe CS6. Listed as “Coming Soon” for Kona LHi and 3G. The playback I am speaking of is on the computer monitor only. External playback yet to be tested, but AJA has great support and I am confident when they release it that it will work.

No problems on my Mac Pro 5.1 with playback and basic edits/titles. Nikon H264 mov, ProRes HQ HD, other codecs. NVidia GTX 285. Both 10.6.8 and 10.7.4 boot drives on same Mac Pro. Mercury enabled.

Decided to go to 10.6.8 anyway. I have three different OS’s I can boot into on my Mac Pro 5.1. CS6 on 10.7.4 and 10.6.8 and CS 5.5, FCP and Media 100 Suite 2.1 on 10.6.7. Still 10.6.7 on my Macbook Pro, but will probably bump it to 10.6.8 for CS6 PP,FCP w AJA ioHD, and Media and exchange validations on CS6 PP as needed. Media 100 Suite 2.1 requires 10.6.7 for legacy (MJPEG B) material so will keep it on one boot drive on the Mac Pro. Very under-rated NLE. Excellent stability, all the way to 4k RED raw. Anyway, life just got a lot less complex now that CS6 has Nikon support and I can dump 5.0.x. CS6 PP seems to run quite well and smoothly in initial tests on Mac Pro on both 10.6.8 and 10.7.4 with GTX 285 NVidia. Big improvement. Hope it will prove to be stable. If so will probably become my primary NLE. Still Media 100 for long form in ProRes for near future. ProRes HQ finish on all NLE’s. Thanks for the info.
