Upgrading my 5.0.x boot drive to CS6. Currently at 10.6.7 for one piece of legacy sfw. Would it be very advisable to go to to 10.6.8 before installing CS6. I am completely removing 5.0.x including cleaner. 10.6.8 breaks MJPEG B support which Media 100 Suite 2.1 needs for legacy material. I have 10.6.7 on another boot drive with M100, but I am wary of 10.6.8 because I have heard rumors of other QT issues. Mac Pro 5.1.

Decided to go to 10.6.8 anyway. I have three different OS’s I can boot into on my Mac Pro 5.1. CS6 on 10.7.4 and 10.6.8 and CS 5.5, FCP and Media 100 Suite 2.1 on 10.6.7. Still 10.6.7 on my Macbook Pro, but will probably bump it to 10.6.8 for CS6 PP,FCP w AJA ioHD, and Media and exchange validations on CS6 PP as needed. Media 100 Suite 2.1 requires 10.6.7 for legacy (MJPEG B) material so will keep it on one boot drive on the Mac Pro. Very under-rated NLE. Excellent stability, all the way to 4k RED raw. Anyway, life just got a lot less complex now that CS6 has Nikon support and I can dump 5.0.x. CS6 PP seems to run quite well and smoothly in initial tests on Mac Pro on both 10.6.8 and 10.7.4 with GTX 285 NVidia. Big improvement. Hope it will prove to be stable. If so will probably become my primary NLE. Still Media 100 for long form in ProRes for near future. ProRes HQ finish on all NLE’s. Thanks for the info.

Keep this bit of information in mind: the AJA drivers for CS6 will require OSX 10.7 Lion and won’t install on 10.6.x. Of course nothing is ever finite but I got this confirmed from AJA tech support yesterday. AJA drivers dropped 10.6.x support in version 10.0.1.

Have installed 10.7.4 on another Mac Pro boot drive with CS6, so I’m ready when AJA is. Thanks

We strongly recommend that Mac users upgrade to Mac OSX v10.7.4 for Premiere Pro. Many performance and stability fixes are in that update.
