I just hope they at least keep up with Mac OS updates and AJA drivers, including the new Thunderbolt devices. Also hoping to hear a bit of feedback from the company here as well. I was the M100 dealer here in Hawaii for years, sold many systems. I still do my finishing with M100 now that I am back to only doing production. Use other NLE software as well for the codec support, but always move it to ProRes for the entire edit process with M100. Best interface ever designed, especially for documentaries, my main use.

I assume you are also at 10.8. 10.8.1 or 10.8.2? I’ve been getting a lot of “Serious Errors” on 10.6.8 (which I prefer for some other sfw) and 10.7.4. On 6.0.2 PP. Waiting for new Kona drivers. On current recommended for LHi on the Mac Pro.

You should check out Other World Computing for drives. Here is their page for pre-configured two drive RAIDs that should meet your requirements. You will want one with eSATA for best performance. Firewire 800 will limit you to 80mB/sec. I have several of the dual port eSATA Mercury Elite Pros that will give you 250mB/sec with the included dual port 6G eSATA card. It is the bottom config on this page. I put the drives in myself and ordered the Hitachi drives and the box separately. I have 15 of the 2 TB ones and they have been flawless. I am not sure what drives are in the pre-configured ones, but you can see what they carry in their bare drive section or give them a call. Sorry, just noticed your question. In native mode, I am running XDCam EX, Nikon H264 .mov, and ProRes HQ. All are very responsive with 6 main cores and hyperthreads. Not maxed except on exports to ProRes HQ, my mastering and intermediate format. Sorry, no AVCHD. I do think the hexacore is the Mac sweet spot in price/performance.Jim Wiseman

If you are more comfortable on the Mac, my advice would be to get the 2012 Hexacore 3.33 Ghz with 24-32GB RAM and an NVidia card, Quadro 4000 or a GTX 285 from eBay, the GPU in my Mac Pro. That is the system I’m using and it works great on CS6 with a very low frustration level. There is more than raw performance to computer life.

Using CS6 I’ve had no problems on a Mac Pro 2010 Hexacore 3.33 GHz with GTX 285 playing back XDCam EX, Nikon D7000 H264, Canon H264, and ProRes HQ QT mov’s. Nikon wouldn’t play at all on 5.5.x, works fine on CS6. If you are concerned, download the trial. Doesn’t come with ProRes unless you have FCP or Motion 5. ProRes may also come with latest Compressor, but sounds like you are mostly concerned with long GOP formats.

I’ve got the Hexacore 3.33 with the GTX 285 and 24GB RAM, OWC SSD in one of the optical bays. Works great. I think that machine is in the sweet spot. Not much changed from my 2010 5,1, cheaper now and more base RAM. Good choice w faster processor and enough cores for CS6. If you want to be sure of getting a tower config, a safer bet than waiting.

AnandTech has a review on the Retina running Windows 7 and 8 that shows the display in 8 scaled 100, 125, and 150 percent that can be displayed at original size as well as fit to browser window.
