thanks Michael, you just did. it’s frustrating when someone asks for your help, says your the only one she can trust, and then asks you to get a second opinion when you don’t tell her what she wants to hear! i’ve been using Avid since ’94, i think i know an obsolete system when i see one.

btw, she was hoping she could install the media composer upgrade she has for it! i think that’ll not be happening.

You’re right, that would be clunky as hell, but it would work. I’ll talk to the client.

yeah, that sounds like the best plan so far. Ideally, I’d like to save everything in ProRes. They’ll be able to read those?

I just want to finish this thread by commending Greg at Calibrated Software for his terrific service. I was having trouble getting their MXF Import software to work, but Greg was very responsive in helping me find a conflict on my system and now the software works great. Very impressed!

I just spend an hour or so trying to import some Avid MXF files after installing the new Calibrated MXF demo, but I couldn’t get anywhere. I notice that they say they can only open Avid v3.1 mxf files. I guess that’s my problem, some of my mxf files are older. any plans to add broader Avid support?

I’m moving to Final Cut after 15 years with Media Composer. I’m wondering about Apple Certification. Is this worthwhile? There are a bunch of courses offered this year at NAB. If you could get any two certifications on FCP systems, what would they be? Final Cut level 1 and level 2? Final cut level 1 and Motion level 1? any thoughts?
