The Fox show 24 had my all-time favorite negative product placement.

Ford was a huge sponsor for 24 for many seasons. All of the CTU agents drove Expeditions and Excursions.

But then at one point, Agent Almeida’s girlfriend is kidnapped by the terrorists and he’s forced to work for the badguys. He goes to the CTU parking lot, and gets in the ONE AND ONLY CHEVY SUBURBAN IN THE CTU FLEET and takes off to help the badguys.

I thought it was absolutely hilarious.

    update:
I’m almost positive it’s something with that specific project file. While it’s open, I can’t make new sequences in any project. but when I close that project and open a new one, everything appears to be fine. The same thing is happening on my laptop with the files copied to an external harddrive. I think I can figure out a workaround to finish my project this week now, but does anyone have any ideas as to why this happened, and how I can prevent it in the future?

yes, multiple times. I’m currently moving all the footage and project files to an external drive so I can try opening up everything on my laptop. Hopefully that will work normally so that I can at least finish this project by my deadline this weekend…

  • Update: when I try it with the same footage in a completely new composition, it works properly. So I assume it’s my existing comp that is causing problems.

I can also copy my effects layers into the new comp and parent ’em, and they work fine, so I guess I have a solution to my problem for tonight, but I’d still like to know why things went wonky in the first place…

  • I will definitely keep the prores thing in mind for future projects. I don’t think I’m going to be recapturing a dozen tapes of what amounts to really great vacation footage for this one, though… I really appreciate your help, David!

  • thanks for the info. I’ll copy the CC to the individual clips instead, and copy the contents of the sequences into a new sequence, rather than nesting them. Hopefully that will do it.

After this experience, I’m glad I rarely work in HDV, and never deliver on tape anymore.
