  • [Rob Milt] “Is it possible two have two completely different hair materials on a single mesh?”

Yes it is. With the desired polygon(s) selected, simply add hair and it will be limited to that selection. A selection tag will be created for the cube, and the “Link” window of the Hair Object will be automatically populated with that selection. The hair that was first added to the cube will appear everywhere else. You can then modify the hair materials individually.

Sounds like a corrupt installation. Have you tried removing the nextlimit folder from plugins and reinstalling Realflow? If that doesn’t work the only other suggestion I would have would be to contact Nextlimit support.

  • Hi John,

To apply different textures to different parts of the extrusion simply add all of them to the extrude object and then enter the appropriate designator (C1, R1, etc.) into the “Selection” box of the Texture Tag. In the example below I added red, blue, and yellow textures to an extrude object set to Fillet Cap, and then entered “C1” for the blue texture to restrict it to the start cap, and “R1” for the yellow texture to restrict it to the start rounding (or “fillet”). The red texture then shows up on any parts not included in the selections.

  • To control when an object falls you could either keyframe the “Enabled” setting in the dynamics tag, or keyframe the “Dynamic” setting from Off to On. The advantage of the second option is that leaving “Enabled” checked on, and keyframing “Dynamic” from Off to On, will allow the object to react to collisions, and obey timeline commands (position animation, for example), then begin falling at the point in time where you keyframe it to “On.” When you change the “Dynamic” setting from On to Off you will see the tag’s icon change from that of a Rigid Body to that of a Collider Body, indicating the change in properties. With the “Enabled” setting unchecked it’s as if there is no dynamics tag on the object. Other options for controlling when dynamics takes effect and takes control of a tagged object can be found in the “Trigger” setting.

Using “Noise” as the Random Mode.

  • Glad to be of help.

  • You need to have Hardware OpenGL checked on in the Preferences.

Thanks Sam. I appreciate you taking the time to make the example.

    Rick,
Thanks, but I was responding to Sam’s comments.

For future reference the easiest way to upload anything – screenshot, project file, etc. – is just to drag it into the message window.

    Hi Sam,

I had a similar thought to use pose morph, but when I followed your description only the center polygon of the selected polygons moves when the strength slider is animated. It seems that Brian is correct that extrude cannot be animated. Did you actually create a working example as per your instructions? If so, could you please upload your project file so that I could see it?

    Thanks
